The settling down of trans-national companies in the country affects brazillian companies’ competitiveness, especially that of those which operate only in the local market. The difficulties in growth or even their survival in the face of the productive activity’s globalization process is the focus of this piece of work, which seeks to deepen the understanding on how companies which act only locally are restructuring themselves strategically, mainly in an agro-industrial chain like that of milk, whose characteristics include concentration of foreign-capital companies. Since this is a theme in its inicial stage of study the authors have opted for the performing of a study of exploratory cases. The analised cases illustrate feasible survival and growth... |

The present article aimed at analyzing some characteristics of the milk cooperatives from Brazil, as well as to show the competitive difficulties faced by this part of the milk chain. Therefore, it was necessary to investigate the bases that contributed to the formation of the current competitive environment in which such milk chain is inserted. Thus, it is observed that the market has become dynamic, complex and challenging, demanding quick responses from the companies in what concerns the new tendencies. Based on such new tendencies a conceptual theoretical discussion of several authors found in the literature was carried out in this study in order to incorporate key-elements that could configure an appropriate analysis of the mentioned issue. The aim of this work is to characterize milk producers in Southwestern Paraná. It has been considered technical, technological, managerial, economic and social aspects. 202 producers have been interviewed, grouped into three distinct clusters, according to productivity levels. As results, milk producers in the region presented, on average, superior indicators when compared to data in Paraná, ratifying better organization and productive system in the region. Relevant differences among producers with different productivity levels could be pointed out. Low-productivity producers, in general, are more engaged in rural work, produce low volume of milk and work in milk activity for longer time, which can indicate path dependency. Besides that, higher percentage... |

The milk chain is very important to Brazilian agribusiness, generating jobs and income to many actors involved. This study aims to identify key factors that influence the performance of the milk chain, as well as the adaptation of farmers to new patterns of competition and access to new technologies developed. From a case study with a dairy farmer cooperative in Laranjeiras do Sul, Parana, we identified the main characteristics of institutional and organizational environment evolution and how these evolution influenced the chain performance. We described the technological changes occurring in the productive process, as well as the strategies adopted by producers to adapt to these changes. However, it was observed that a part of these producers, especially... |
