Antibiotic residues in pasteurized and unpasteurized milk marketed in southwest of Paraná, Brazil Ciência Rural
Schlemper,Valfredo; Sachet,Ana Paula.
ABSTRACT: The treatment of dairy cattle with antibiotics may lead to milk contamination by drugs residues, which represents risks to human health. This study aimed to investigate the presence of antibiotic residues in milk, produced and marketed in Capanema microregion, Paraná, Brazil, through the analysis of pasteurized milk samples from different brands consumed by the local population and unpasteurized milk samples provided by a dairy industry. Enzyme immunoassays screening kits SNAPduo™ Beta-Tetra ST Test (Idexx Laboratories) were used, which verified the presence of β-lactam and tetracyclic drugs residues, as well as enzyme immunoassays screening kits Charm ROSA Test (Charm Sciences), which established the presence of quinolones and sulfonamides...

Association of TLR4 polymorphisms with subclinical mastitis in Brazilian holsteins BJM
Mesquita,Adriano Queiroz de; Rezende,Cintia Silva Minafra e; Mesquita,Albenones José de; Jardim,Eurione Antonio Garcia da Veiga; Kipnis,Ana Paula Junqueira.
The identification of dairy cows with greater or lower potential to develop mastits has been pursued for many years among different segments of the milk industry, including governmental organizations. Genomic studies have suggested that Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) within the pattern recognition receptors (PRR) could lead to different responses to pathogens, and consequently result in mastitis resistance or susceptibility. To investigate whether toll like receptor 4 (TLR4) gene is associated with subclinical mastitis in Holstein cows from a property in the state of Goiás, Brazil, TaqMan allelic discrimination and somatic cell count were performed. One hundred and fifty milk samples were analyzed for SCC and centesimal composition. Twenty percent...

FERNANDES, A.M.; BOVO, F.; MORETTI, T.S.; ROSIM, R.E.; LIMA, C.G. de; OLIVEIRA, C.A.F. de..
The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of somatic cell counts (SCC) in casein fractions of ultra high temperature (UHT) milk. Raw milks were categorized in SCC groups of low (200,000?320,000 cells mL-1), intermediate (380,000?560,000 cells mL-1) and high cells (600,000?800,000 cells mL-1). Five replicates of UHT milks within each SCC category were analyzed for casein fractions after 8, 30, 60, 90 and 120 days of storage through high performance liquid chromatography. SCC showed effect only on beta-casein reduction. SCC in raw milk increases the proteolysis of UHT milk, as a consequence of beta-casein degradation.

Conjugated linoleic acid of dairy foods is affected by cows’ feeding system and processing of milk Scientia Agricola
Ruiz,Juan Pablo Avilez; Alonzo,Marcelo Wladimir; Pertíñez,Manuel Delgado.
ABSTRACT The distribution of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in dairy products commercially available in Chile is poorly understood. This study aimed to assess the content of CLA in dairy cow products from Chile and the effect of processing fresh milk into dairy products. Samples of raw milk were categorized into two groups based on the animal feeding system utilized by the dairy farm: 1) grazing based systems (Los Lagos region); and 2) housing systems using total mixed ration (TMR) diets (Los Angeles region). Simultaneously, commercial samples of condensed milk, powdered milk, butter and Gouda cheese were analyzed. Furthermore, samples of raw milk and processed products (powdered and sweetened condensed milk) were also analyzed. Dairy farms based on...

Convenient genotyping of nine bovine K-casein variants Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Pacheco Contreras,Víctor I; Lourenco Jaramillo,Diana L; Parra Bracamonte,Gaspar M; Martínez González,Juan C; Sifuentes Rincón,Ana M.
K-casein gene polymorphisms are of major importance in the dairy industry due to their association with different quality and productive traits (i.e., milk protein). Several methods for genotyping this gene have been proposed; however, none are focused on the simultaneous discrimination of nine K-casein variants. A strategy based on PCR-RFLP was designed to characterize nine K-casein variants (A, B, C, E, F², G, H, I and J) and used to genotype three cattle populations: Gyrholando (3/8 Gyr x 5/8 Holstein), Charolais and Carora. The B variant was the most frequent in the Charolais and Carora breeds, with allelic frequencies of 0.60 and 0.59, respectively. In the Gyrholando breed, four variants were found, with the A variant being the most frequent and E and...

Lopes,Marcos Aurélio; Lage,Luciana Andrade; Lopes,Fernando César Ferraz; Ribeiro,Carlos Gustavo Santos; Gama,Marco Antônio Sundfeld da; Rodriguez,Norberto Mario.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the economic viability of feeding dairy cows with diets containing different levels of soybean oil. Cows were fed diets based on tropical forage (Pennisetum purpureum Schum) supplemented with different levels of soybean oil (0.0, 1.5, 3.0, and 4.5% of diet DM). The calculations were made considering the prices of the dietary ingredients and the daily consumption of each dietary treatment. The milk quality-based payment was estimated on the bonus paid for milk fat and protein contents according to two systems used by companies of the dairy sector. The economic benefit was calculated as the difference between the income obtained from milk sale and the cost associated with animal feeding. The MOP scenario analysis...

Feeding strategies to design the fatty acid profile of sheep milk and cheese R. Bras. Zootec.
Nudda,Anna; Battacone,Gianni; Boaventura Neto,Oscar; Cannas,Antonello; Francesconi,Ana Helena Dias; Atzori,Alberto Stanislao; Pulina,Giuseppe.
The majority of sheep milk produced in the world is transformed into cheese. Feeding is a major factor affecting the quality of sheep milk and, therefore, of sheep cheese. Because fat is the main compound of cheese, this review gives an update on the effects of feeding and nutrition on milk fat content and deeply discusses feeding strategies aimed at increasing the levels of healthy fatty acids (FA), such as conjugated linoleic acid and omega-3 FA, in milk and cheese in the human diet. In addition, the use of alternative feed resources such as by-products, aromatic plants, and phenolic compounds in the sheep diet and their effects on milk and cheese FA composition are also discussed. Among feeding strategies, grazing and the use of supplements rich in oils...
