Evaluation of morpho-anatomical and chemical differences between varieties of the medicinal plant Casearia sylvestris Swartz Anais da ABC (AABC)

Casearia sylvestris Swartz (Salicaceae) has been used in traditional medicine and its leaf extracts have been exhibited important pharmacological activities. The species presents morphological, chemical and genetic variation. Two varieties are considered due external morphological differences: C. sylvestris var. sylvestris and var. lingua. There are difficulties in definition of these varieties. The objective of this work is to evaluate chemical and morpho-anatomical differences between C. sylvestris varieties that can be applied in their distinction for pharmaceutical or botanical purposes. Macro and microscopic characters of the aerial vegetative organs of Carqueja: Baccharis usterii Heering BABT

This work aimed to study the macro and microscopic characters of the aerial vegetative organs of Baccharis usterii for quality control purposes. The plant was prepared for light and scanning electron microscopic analyses. The stem consisted of three-winged cladodes with small leaves. In the caulinar axis, these was a uniseriate epidermis, chlorenchyma alternating with angular collenchyma, perivascular fibre caps adjoining the phloem which was outside the xylem, and parenchymatic pith. The wings and the leaves were alike, presenting a uniseriate epidermis, palisade parenchyma next to the both sides of the epidermis and spongy parenchyma traversed by minor collateral vascular bundles in the central region. Morpho anatomical characterization and essential oils of Tagetes terniflora and Tagetes minuta (Asteraceae) growing in Tucumán (Argentina) Boletín de la Sociedad

The essential oil composition and morpho-anatomy of Tagetes minuta, collected at “El Mollar” and two different populations of Tagetes terniflora collected in Tafí del Valle (Tucumán, Argentina) were studied. The essential oil of aerial parts (flowers and leaves) from both species was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Qualitative and quantitative differences were observed in the composition of the essential oil from both species. Oxygenated monoterpenes were the dominant compounds in the essential oil from both collections of T. terniflora where the main component was cis-tagetone (33.6% and 58.4% respectively) accompanied by significant amounts of the monotepene hydrocarbon cis-β-ocimene (17.1% and 17.4%...
