A New Discrimination Scheme for Oceanic Ferromanganese Deposits using High Field Strength and Rare Earth Elements ArchiMer
Josso, P.; Pelleter, Ewan; Pourret, O.; Fouquet, Yves; Etoubleau, Joel; Cheron, Sandrine; Bollinger, C..
Ferromanganese (Fe-Mn) deposits constitute a ubiquitous mineral type in oceanic settings, with metal (Cu, Ni, Zn, Co, Pt) and rare earth elements (REE) enrichments of potential economic interest. Routine analysis of trace elements by ICP-MS has advanced our understanding of the impact of hydrogenetic, diagenetic and hydrothermal processes on the mobility and interaction of high field strength elements (HFSE: Zr, Ti) and REE and yttrium (REY) with Fe-Mn oxyhydroxides. Recent discoveries in the French exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Wallis and Futuna (southwest Pacific Ocean) have brought new insight to the formation of low temperature (LT) hydrothermal Mn deposits and lead us to reconsider the classification and discrimination diagrams for of Fe-Mn...

Ramírez May, Ana Guadalupe.

Exopolysaccharides produced by the symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacteria of leguminosae Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Bomfeti,Cleide Aparecida; Florentino,Ligiane Aparecida; Guimarães,Ana Paula; Cardoso,Patrícia Gomes; Guerreiro,Mário César; Moreira,Fatima Maria de Souza.
The process of biological nitrogen fixation (BNF), performed by symbiotic nitrogen fixing bacteria with legume species, commonly known as α and β rhizobia, provides high sustainability for the ecosystems. Its management as a biotechnology is well succeeded for improving crop yields. A remarkable example of this success is the inoculation of Brazilian soybeans with Bradyrhizobium strains. Rhizobia produce a wide diversity of chemical structures of exopolysaccharides (EPS). Although the role of EPS is relatively well studied in the process of BNF, their economic and environmental potential is not yet explored. These EPS are mostly species-specific heteropolysaccharides, which can vary according to the composition of sugars, their linkages in a single...

Pautot, Guy; Hoffert, Michel.
The cruises named COPANO have been undertaken during the summer 1979 on the R. V. Le Suroit of the CNEXO, as a part of an international research program I.C.I.M.E. The objective of this project was to study relatively small zones (a few km2) and to establish a relationship between characteristics of the manganese nodules and their environment. During the COPANO cruises, five zones have been studied: two in the northern Pacific, two in the southern Pacific and finally one in the equatorial Pacific. All the zones are centered on the longitude 134° Wand therefore their symmetry to the highly productive equatorial zone may be tested. As one of the results of the cruises is the relation between nodules and the bottom soil, established by sediment-sampling and a...

OCCURRENCE OF MELOIDOGYNE JAVANICA PARASITING ROOTS AND NODULES OF PEANUTS IN PARAGUAY Bragantia
LORDELLO,RUBENS RODOLFO ALBUQUERQUE; LORDELLO,ANA INES LUCENA; GODOY,IGNÁCIO JOSÉ DE.
The root-knot nematode Meloidogyne javanica (Treub, 1885) Chitwood, 1949, was identified in roots, nodules and shells of peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea L.), cv. Florman-INTA, collected from a field in Menno colony, Chaco Central region of Paraguay. Infected plants were observed in patches, showing wilting and drying of vegetative parts. Peanut had been grown ininterruptly for many years in the same area and patches had already been observed in the preceding year in cv. Starr. Nematodes collected from roots in this field reproduced on tomato cultivar rutgers and peanut cultivar florunner and produced egg-masses on roots, nodules and shells of cultivar Florman. This is the first report on M. javanica parasiting peanut in Paraguay.

Rhizobial characterization in revegetated areas after bauxite mining BJM
Borges,Wardsson Lustrino; Prin,Yves; Ducousso,Marc; Le Roux,Christine; Faria,Sergio Miana de.
Abstract Little is known regarding how the increased diversity of nitrogen-fixing bacteria contributes to the productivity and diversity of plants in complex communities. However, some authors have shown that the presence of a diverse group of nodulating bacteria is required for different plant species to coexist. A better understanding of the plant symbiotic organism diversity role in natural ecosystems can be extremely useful to define recovery strategies of environments that were degraded by human activities. This study used ARDRA, BOX-PCR fingerprinting and sequencing of the 16S rDNA gene to assess the diversity of root nodule nitrogen-fixing bacteria in former bauxite mining areas that were replanted in 1981, 1985, 1993, 1998, 2004 and 2006 and in a...
