The authors describe 5 seaweeds that have not been collected previously from the French coasts of the Channel: the Phaeophyceae Mikrosyphar polysiphoniae, Myrionema cf. strangulans, Leathesia difformis, Punctaria latifolia; the Rhodophyceae Chromastrum polyblastum. The Chlorophyceae Spongomorpha aeruginosa and Cladophora sericea are added to complete the existing Field Guide. Ecological data are added to the morphological and anatomical descriptions.

Ecological data are added to the morphological and anatomical description.

The annual cycle of the Copepods, Cladocera, Appendicularians, Chaetognatha and Cnidaria has been observed in a coastal area in front of Boulogne-sur-Mer. Four species of Copepods amount to some 70% of the whole zooplankton. These herbivorous animals become especially abundant during the phytoplankton blooms with yield which seems to be more important during the autumn than during the spring. Yearly the Appendicularians offer four maxima agreeing with the transport of patches by the currents. The Chaetognatha are only present during the autumn. During September 1981, male and female gametophytes and tetrasporophytes of Polysiphonia nigra were collected at Wimereux (Pas-de-Calais, France). This seems to be a rather rare species generally. Antithamnion cruciatum var. defectum has also for the first time been found in situ along the Boulonnais coast. Both taxa are described and their locality and range are reported.

In March 1982, Spongonema tomentosum was collected epiphytically on Fucus serratus, in the lower mediolittoral zone at Wimereux. The morphology of this brown seaweed and the different types of reproductive structures are described.

1. Blood from embryos, young animals and adult Sepia officinalis L. has been analysed by an ultramicroelectrophoretic technique.2. During the differentiation of a very small embryo into a 2-month-old animal, we have found eleven different protein fractions. 3. All these proteins have been identified as hemocyanin by histochemical tests. 4. The possible origin of the embryonic, young and adult hemocyanins is discussed.
