Introducción: en Colombia hay un gran número de especies exóticas sin explotación con potencial agroindustrial que constituyen una fuente futura de ingresos. El género Passiflora, el más grande de la familia Passifloraceae comprende cerca de 500 especies, ninguna se caracteriza por poseer un alto contenido de compuestos polifenólicos con propiedades antioxidantes; excepto Passiflora mollissima (Kunth) L.H. Characterization of the antioxidant capacity of natives fruits from the Brazilian Amazon Region Rev. Bras. Frutic.

The objective of the present study was to characterize the chemistry and the antioxidant capacity in 8 species of native fruits from Amazonia. All the fruits were collected at full physiological and commercial maturity from properties located at: Boa Vista / RR, São Luiz do Anauá / RR, Manaus / AM, and Belém / PA. At the end of the experiment, the functional pattern for the camu-camu fruits showed that the total phenolic and ascorbic acid content and antioxidant assays were superior compared to the other samples. Despite the functional losses detected for the freeze-dried samples of the camu-camu fruit, all the other freeze-dried samples kept under -20ºC showed appropriate stability for long-term storage. Influence of the growing region, quality classification and harvest year on the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) index of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon red wines Ciencia e Investigación Agraria

In the present work, we studied the effect of the growing region (IV, Metropolitan or VI - VII regions), quality classification ("Varietal", "Reserva", and "Gran Reserva") and harvest year (2000-2012) on the total phenolic content and antioxidant capacity of thirty-six Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon red wine samples. The Folin-Ciocalteu (FC) and (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) ORAC methods, employing fluorescein and pyrogallol red as probes, were applied to establish the properties of the wine samples. ABSTRACT: Essential oil extraction is commonly carried out by using the hydrodistillation method, which is described in official compendia of food quality control and medicinal plants. Despite the widespread use of this method, few studies have evaluated the effect of the atmosphere change during extraction on the composition and antioxidant activity of essentials oils. Therefore, a study of oxygen introduction influence during the extraction of essential oils from basil, lemongrass and lemon by hydrodistillation was performed. Stability of phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity of regular and decaffeinated coffees BABT

This study compared the regular and decaffeinated coffees in relation to antioxidant capacity, levels of some antioxidant molecules and stability of these parameters over a six-month period under different storage conditions. The regular coffee samples analyzed right after the industrial production showed higher antioxidant capacity (ORAC and DPPH), the same levels of phenolic compounds and higher levels of phenolic acids than decaffeinated coffee. Edible films are an alternative to synthetic materials used for packaging foods. The aim of this study was to develop and characterize films made from cassava starch, freeze-dried acai and glycerol. The films were characterized for thickness, water vapor permeability, water solubility, anthocyanins, antioxidant capacity and mechanical properties. The results indicated a rich edible film in anthocyanins with considerable antioxidant capacity (150.70 micromol Trolox), which can extend the commercial validity of the packaged food and meets the growing demand for biodegradable packaging that tends to reduce the environmental impact. The addition results in a significant effect on the polymer matrix reducing the water solubility and water activity.
