Seventy-three fresh vegetable marketing cooperatives handled 57 different fresh vegetable commodities weighing 1.6 billion pounds; these vegetables are valued at more than $218 million. In 1986, cooperatives handled more than 4 percent of the total volume of nine principal fresh vegetables produced in the United States. Important concerns of fresh vegetable marketing cooperatives were competition from domestic and foreign areas, overproduction, labor shortage and high costs, marketing, quality, and transportation. Although associations were using their facilities to 71 percent of capacity, 58 percent planned expansion over the next 5 years to provide facilities for handling the expected increase in new members and increased volume of current members. |

Integration of biodiversity conservation into economic utilization of natural resources has become a central response to the challenges of sustainable development. However, the resources and competencies required to implement such an integrated strategy at the level of the individual, the organization, and the sector are not known. To address this knowledge gap, we have developed an approach to analyze responses of organizations to environmental change and evolving social demands for biodiversity conservation. We analyze the scale, scope, and distribution of the resources and competencies that support the delineation of ecologically significant habitats in intensively managed nonindustrial private forests in Finland, an important international actor in the... |

We introduce simple production economic models to estimate the potential gains from mergers. We decompose the gains into technical efficiency, size (scale) and harmony (mix) gains, and we discuss alternative ways to capture these gains. We propose to approximate the production processes using the non-parametric Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach, and we use the resulting operational approach to estimate the potential gains from merging agricultural extension offices in Denmark. Contents: 1. Introduction, 2. Literature, 3. Production Models, 4. Measures of Merger Gains, 5. Decomposing Merger Gains, 6. Alternative Decompositions, 7. The Danish Agricultural Extension Services, 8. Final Remarks, References. Key Words: Data Envelopment Analysis,... |

One of the main factors of a company's business performance is complete mobility and orientation of the employees towards realizing common interests and goals of the company as a whole. Activities aimed at that goal are also related to building a motivation system in the company. One of the means of motivation policy is the system of incentive rewards, where the information input is the calculation of costs and business results of a company, relying on complete tracking of business processes, according to functions, fields and centers of responsibility for achieved success or failure. Profit, as the final financial product of the company's activities, is basically the main activating force for all the employees. Their motivation helps successful... |

_______________ WATER, ETHNICITY AND... |
