A new versatile database created for geneticists and breeders to link molecular and phenotypic data in perennial crops: the AppleBreed DataBase Inra
Antofie, A.; Lateur, M.; Oger, R.; Patocchi, A.; Durel, C.E.; Van de Weg, W.E..
Objective: AppleBreed DataBase (DB) aims to store genotypic and phenotypic data from multiple pedigree verified plant populations (crosses, breeding selections and commercial cultivars) so that they are easily accessible for geneticists and breeders. It will help in elucidating the genetics of economically important traits, in identifying molecular markers associated with agronomic traits, in allele mining and in choosing the best parental cultivars for breeding. It also provides high traceability of data over generations, years and localities. AppleBreed DB could serve as a generic database design for other perennial crops with long economic lifespans, long juvenile periods and clonal propagation. Results: AppleBreed DB is organized as a relational...

Genomic regions involved in productivity of two specific poplar families in Europe. 2. Biomass production and its relationships with tree architecture and phenology Inra
Marron, N.; Storme, V.; Dillen, S.Y.; Bastien, C.; Ricciotti, L.; Salani, F.; Sabatti, M.; Rae, A.M.; Ceulemans, R.; Boerjan, W..
Short-rotation coppice of hybrid poplar is a promising renewable feedstock for biofuel production. Breeding for high biomass in short-rotation coppice has started only recently. Two hybrid poplar families were grown at two sites in Europe and phenotyped for a variety of biomass-related traits (1) to examine the extent of phenotypic and genetic variation in biomass production, ramification, resprouting, and phenology, (2) to search for genomic regions involved in productivity, and (3) to determine the effect of the environment on the expression of these traits. The performance of both families differed within and among sites. A pronounced heterosis was observed in most cases. Moderate to high heritability values were found. Seventeen quantitative trait loci...

Voies d’amélioration des impacts environnementaux des systèmes céréaliers : une première synthèse à partir des travaux de l’INRA Inra
Abecassis, J.; Bertrand, M.; Bonny, S.; Dedryver, C.A.; Georget, M.; Nolot, J.M.; Rolland, B.; Rousset, M..
