| It is increasingly recognized that ecological restoration demands conservation action beyond the borders of existing protected areas. This requires the coordination of land uses and management over a larger area, usually with a range of partners, which presents novel institutional challenges for conservation planners. Interviews were undertaken with managers of a purposive sample of large-scale conservation areas in the UK. Interviews were open-ended and analyzed using standard qualitative methods. Results show a wide variety of organizations are involved in large-scale conservation projects, and that partnerships take time to create and demand resilience in the face of different organizational practices, staff turnover, and short-term funding. | This publication reviews the legal and business structure alternatives available to those forming business structures in New York State. A framework is developed for assessing various business structural options. Six business organizational forms are discussed, including: 1) sole proprietorships, 2) business corporations, 3) general partnerships, 4) limited partnerships, 5) cooperative corporations, and 6) limited liability companies. | The adoption of bioregionalism by institutions that are instrumental in river basin management has significant potential to resolve complex water resource management problems. | Technology adoption in the Australian beef industry has been low and slow compared to that in the intensive livestock and cropping industries. | Results from remote sensing analysis, participatory mapping, socio-economic interviews, and hotspot information that were analyzed in a geographic information system (GIS) show how fire has changed the landscape through its use in land preparation for oil palm and timber plantations and in the development of transmigration settlements. These timber and oil palm plantations have greatly altered the livelihood options of the communities, and have created conflict between communities and companies over land-use allocation and tenure. | We propose a new definition of partnership, which emphasizes the role and meaning of power in creating partnership. Following a case study of change processes within a kibbutz community undergoing lifestyle changes, The proposed definition focuses on three dimensions of partnership: (a) the overt dimension, in which partnership is manifested through daily community life such as organizational structure, rules and norms; (b) the covert dimension, which focuses on symbolic rites of partnership and "non-events"; (c) the latent dimension, which expresses internalized partnership and influences participants' consciousness through socialization and world views. |
