The livestock systems are mostly forage-based and the off-season is the most challenging period of the year in Brazil. Mixed pastures established after cropping soybean can greatly enhance the herbage accumulation in crop-livestock systems. Besides, fertilization is not a common practice during the off-season, although, in the Amazon Biome, there is no temperature or photoperiod restrictions. Abstract: Integrated systems have been considered an alternative to enhance grain and livestock production. Abstract: Fast and accurate quantification of the available pasture biomass is essential to support grazing management decisions in intensively managed fields. The increasing temporal and spatial resolutions oered by the new generation of orbital platforms, such as Planet CubeSat satellites, have improved the capability of monitoring pasture biomass using remotely sensed data. This study evaluated the performance, body water balance, ingestive behavior and blood metabolites in goats fed with cactus pear silage subjected to an intermittent water supply. Thirty-six goats were distributed in a randomized block design arranged as a 3 × 3 factorial with cactus pear silage in the goats? diet (on a 0%, 21% and 42% dry matter-DM basis) and water offer frequency (ad libitum, and 24 and 48 h water restrictions). There was an interaction only between the cactus pear silage level and water offerings for drinking water. Goats fed 42% cactus pear silage had greater intake of non-fibrous carbohydrates, energy, Ca, Mg and Na minerals, water intake, urinary water excretion, body water retention and nutrient digestibility. Forage peanut (Arachis pintoi) is a creeping, stoloniferous and perennial tropical legume with good compatibility mainly with short grasses. However, the mechanisms that are responsible for this compatibility are poorly understood. The present study screened 12 forage peanut genotypes for competitive ability and spreading ability during the establishment of a mixed sward with Brachiaria humidicola cv. Tully.

Brazil is the center of origin of forage peanut (Arachis pintoi), the most important forage legume for use in mixed pastures in equatorial climates. Its main attributes are the high forage quality, grazing tolerance and persistence. Slow establishment is an important drawback of forage peanut as a pasture legume. The present study screened 12 forage peanut genotypes for speed of establishment in pure stands.

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of soil management and planting spacing on establishment performance of mixed swards of purple stargrass (Cynodon nlemfuensis cv. BRS Lua) and forage peanut (Arachis pintoi cv. Belmonte). The treatments comprised two methods of soil management (conventional tillage, with desiccation followed by harrowing; and no-tillage, with sequential desiccation with glyphosate) and two planting spacing (50 and 100 cm between rows). The experimental design was in randomized blocks, arranged in split-plot. Both methods of soil management ensured rapid pasture establishment, with canopy cover greater than 94 % at 84 d after planting, with the no-tillage surpassing the conventional tillage, and at a cost of no-tillage 7 %...

The use of different forage species in a mixed pasture is recommended to improve forage mass and soil characteristics. However, the frequency of harvest (e.g.; grazing or hay) can increase the forage removal during the off-season, and affect the residual forage mass to the following crop, especially in the non-till crop-livestock systems.
