Does riparian vegetation affect fish assemblage? A longitudinal gradient analysis in three Amazonian streams Biological Sciences
Virgilio, Lucena Rocha; Ramalho, Werther Pereira; Silva, João Carlos Barbosa da Silva; Suçuarana, Monik da Silveira; Brito, Cleyton Holanda de; Vieira, Lisandro Juno Soares.
The degradation of riparian vegetation in low-order streams can cause irreversible environmental damage, biodiversity loss and alter the structure of communities. In this context, the present study evaluated how the level of degradation of riparian vegetation influences the fish assemblage in three low-order streams in the Brazilian Amazon. In each stream, three different stretches were delimited, distributed in the environments of forest, edge and pasture, and the samplings were conducted in three hydrological regimes using dip nets. Influences of the stretches and streams on richness and abundance were tested with GLMM, on the composition with PERMANOVA and on indicator species with IndVal. Species richness was higher in forest environments and lower in...

Production and quality of Mombaça grass forage under different residual heights Animal Sciences
Carvalho, Ana Luiza Silva; Martuscello, Janaina Azevedo; Almeida, Otávio Goulart de; Braz, Thiago Gomez dos Santos; Cunha, Daniel de Noronha Figueiredo Vieira da; Jank, Liana.
This study was conducted to evaluate management strategies in Mombaça grass pastures (Panicum maximum) under intermittent grazing subjected to different residual heights. A randomized-block design with two treatments (two post-grazing residual heights: 30 and 50 cm) and three replications was adopted. Pasture heights pre- and post-grazing, forage mass and accumulation, rest and occupation periods, pasture morphological components, milk yield and quality forage were evaluated. The data were submitted to analysis of variance and the means were compared by the F test at 5% probability. A longer grazing interval was observed in the treatments under the more severe grazing intensity. For forage mass post-grazing, larger production and higher percentage of...
