ACE-I inhibitory properties of hydrolysates from germinated and ungerminated Phaseolus lunatus proteins Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.

Phaseolus lunatus protein concentrates and the proteases Alcalase(R) and Pepsin-Pancreatin were used for the production of protein hydrolysates that inhibit angiotensin-I converting enzyme (ACE). Protein concentrate obtained from germinated and ungerminated seeds flour was hydrolyzed with Alcalase(R) at enzyme/substrate ratio (E/S) 1/10 and during 0.5 and 2.0 h, respectively. On the other hand, protein concentrate obtained from ungerminated (E/S: 1/10) and germinated (E/S: 1/50) seeds flour was sequentially hydrolyzed with Pepsin-Pancreatin during 1.0 and 3.0 h, respectively. Action of a pancreatin and an Aspergillus oryzae protease on whey proteins: correlation among the methods of analysis of the enzymatic hydrolysates BABT

The objectives of this study were to hydrolyze whey proteins using a pancreatin and an Aspergillus oryzae protease; to evaluate the degree of hydrolysis (DH) and the peptide profile; and to establish the correlations among the analytical methods. Ten hydrolysates were prepared at different reaction times and the highest DH was obtained by the protein content method. Good correlations (r > 0.87) between the methods of formaldehyde and orthophthalaldehyde (OPA), formaldehyde and osmometry as well as osmometry and OPA were observed using pancreatin. Similar results were obtained between OPA and soluble protein content for the A. oryzae protease. The reduviid predators Rhynocoris marginatus (Fab.) and Catamirus brevipennis (Servile) use their venoms to paralyze their preys. We detected the antibacterial activity of R. marginatus and C. brevipennis venoms against seven Gram-negative and four Gram-positive bacteria by using the disc diffusion method. Bioactive peptides from marine sources: pharmacological properties and isolation procedures OceanDocs

Marine organisms represent a valuable source of new compounds. The biodiversity of the marine environment and the associated chemical diversity constitute a practically unlimited resource of new active substances in the field of the development of bioactive products. In this paper, the molecular diversity of different marine peptides is described as well as information about their biological properties and mechanisms of action is provided. Moreover, a short review about isolation procedures of selected bioactive marine peptides is offered. Novel peptides from sponges, ascidians, mollusks, sea anemones and seaweeds are presented in association with their pharmacological properties and obtainment methods.

Abstract: Buffalo milk mozzarella is often adulterated by the addition of cow's milk. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of buffalo milk mozzarella by using electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) to detect the addition of cow's milk. Reference cheeses were produced exclusively from combinations of buffalo and cow milk, and labeled reference treatment buffalo or cow (RTB and RTC, respectively). Standardized cheeses were made by combining buffalo milk and 2.5%, 5.0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% or 50% cow's milk. Adults of the Amazon fish Arapaima gigas secrete a fluid from the cephalic canals of the lateral line system, whose biological role(s) along the reproductive cycle are unclear. Up-todate, the biochemical composition of this fluid has been poorly investigated in A. gigas as well as other teleosts. Hence, this study aimed to (1) investigate the potential pheromone release through this cephalic fluid, and (2) to characterise its proteome and peptidome by comparing males and females during and outside the parental care phase.

Despite the fact that the involvement of environmental factors in the physiology of the japanese oyster C. gigas is fully described, regulatory peptides are not known. In this study, we focused on peptidergic control of egg-laying. In order to characterize peptides involved in the regulation of egg-laying in C. gigas, the cuttlefish S. officinalis was used as a model. Firstly, regulatory peptides were investigated in the cuttlefish by peptidomic analysis. This approach led to the identification of eleven new ovarian regulatory peptides. The objective was to determine the effect of time and temperature on the concentration of bioactive compounds during germination of Brazilian soybean cultivar BRS 258. The concentration of bioactive compounds was optimized using Response Surface Methodology, with a 22 central composite rotational design and germination time and temperature as independent variables. Germination was carried out in a germination chamber, using paper in trays containing 500 g of seeds. Germination temperature and time modified the concentrations of bioactive compounds within the ranges studied. The present article contains a brief review on the role of vasopressinergic projections to the nucleus tractus solitarii in the genesis of reflex bradycardia and in the modulation of heart rate control during exercise. The effects of vasopressin on exercise tachycardia are discussed on the basis of both the endogenous peptide content changes and the heart rate response changes observed during running in sedentary and trained rats. Dynamic exercise caused a specific vasopressin content increase in dorsal and ventral brainstem areas. Epitope of dengue virus E protein detect human antibodies associated with mild disease: a potential peptide for vaccine development BJID

ABSTRACT The antigenic potential of seven immunogenic peptides of the dengue virus was evaluated in the sera of patients with dengue confirmed by IgM/IgG serology. Antibodies IgM and IgG against dengue virus peptides were analyzed by ELISA in 31 dengue sero-positive and 20 sero-negative patients. The P5 peptide showed significant IgG immunoreactivity mostly in the sera of patients with dengue without warning signs in comparison with patients with dengue with warning signs, correlating with mild disease. This finding suggests that the low antibody response against P5 epitope could be a risk factor for higher susceptibility to dengue virus infection with warning signs, and that P5 could be a potential antigen for vaccine development.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to determine the apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of crude protein, crude energy, fat, and dry matter of fish protein hydrolysate (FPH), made of by-products of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and whole sardines (Cetengraulis edentulus), and to evaluate the productive performance and muscle fiber growth of Nile tilapia post-larvae. The fact that Alzheimer's beta amyloid (Aβ) peptides forms cation channels in lipid bilayers was discovered during the course of our experiments in the laboratory of "Guayo" Rojas at NIH in Bethesda, Maryland (USA). Recently, we found that the Aβ ion channel could be blocked selectively with small peptides that copy the amino acid sequence of the predicted mouth region of the Aβ channel pore. We now have searched for the essential amino acid residues required for this blocking effect by mutations.
