Detailed knowledge on the factors influencing the production of minicuttings, especially focusing on management and environmental optimization is important. Therefore, this study aimed at evaluating the influence of temperature, relative humidity and PAR (photosynthetically active radiation) and their oscillations in mini-clonal hedges of three E. benthamii x E. dunnii hybrid clones regarding survival, vigor and productive capacity of ministumps. A mini-clonal hedge with a semi-hydroponic system was formed, with five replicates of five ministumps per clone, submitted to 41 successive collections of minicuttings during one year. A multiple linear regression model for minicutting production was adjusted according to maximum, average and minimum climatic... |

The effect of Red light (R), Far-red light (FR) and R/FR combinations on shoot growth of latitudinal ecotypes of B. pendula was studied using special diodes that emit monochromatic lights. When a 12 hrs PAR (110 µmol m-2 s-1) was extended with R, FR or R/FR ratios, lower intensities of monochromatic lights could not prevent growth cessation. At 25 µmol m-2 s-1, FR compared to R enhanced stem elongation in all ecotypes. This was due to the inhibitive effect of R on internode elongation. When day-length was extended by R/FR at various ratios, there was continuous shoot elongation, but was found to be declining with increasing ratios. The more the R, the shorter were the internodes of each plant. B. pendula ecotypes produced branches when... |

Recent studies on coffee (Coffea arabica L.) cultivation in agroforestry systems in Southern Brazil have shown the potential of partial shading to improve management of this crop. The objective of this work was to evaluate microclimatic conditions and their effects on coffee production of plants shaded with pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) in comparison to unshaded ones, from May 2001 to August 2002 in Londrina, State of Paraná, Brazil. The appraised microclimatic characteristics were: global radiation, photosynthetic and radiation balance; air, leaf and soil temperatures; and soil humidity. Shading caused significant reduction in incident global solar radiation, photosynthetically active radiation and net radiation, and attenuated maximum leaf, air and soil... |

In this study we monitored the Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) in four treatments of a Forest Restoration (FR) project, as well as inside a Native Forest (NF) and under Full Sun (FS) condition during 651 days, in Cerrado-Amazon ecotone, Brazil. The FR systems were established in December 2012 and consisted of a consortium of 16 native species with eucalyptus (T1) and with rubber trees (T2), both with artificial pruning (AP), and only native species with (T3) and without AP (T7), all with a density of ~800 ind.ha-1. The PAR data was acquired continuously with specific sensors coupled to automatic weather stations and data loggers, while tree height and shading were measured inside circular plots around the stations after four years of planting.... |
