Carbon and Nitrogen Stocks and Humic Fractions in Brazilian Organosols Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Valladares,Gustavo Souza; Pereira,Marcos Gervasio; Benites,Vinícius de Melo; Anjos,Lúcia Helena Cunha dos; Ebeling,Adierson Gilvani; Guareschi,Roni Fernandes.
ABSTRACT Despite limited geographic expression of Organosols in Brazil, their high carbon storage capacity and natural environmental vulnerability justifies further studies on C and N stocks in these soils and their relationship to the nature of organic matter. Evaluation of physical and chemical properties of organic soils and their ability to store C is important so as to develop sustainable management practices for their preservation. The objectives of the study were to measure the total organic carbon stock (OCst), total nitrogen stock (Nst), and humic fractions in Organosols from different environments and regions of Brazil, and to correlate the data with soil chemical (pH, P, K, Ca2+, Mg2+, Al3+, H+Al, CEC, V) and physical properties (soil bulk...

Effects of pig slurry application on soil physical and chemical properties and glyphosate mobility Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Oliveira,Daniela Aparecida de; Pinheiro,Adilson; Veiga,Milton da.
Pig slurry applied to soil at different rates may affect soil properties and the mobility of chemical compounds within the soil. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of rates of pig slurry application in agricultural areas on soil physical and chemical properties and on the mobility of glyphosate through the soil profile. The study was carried out in the 12th year of an experiment with pig slurry applied at rates of 0 (control), 50, 100 and 200 m³ ha-1 yr-1 on a Latossolo Vermelho distrófico (Hapludox) soil. In the control, the quantities of P and K removed by harvested grains were replaced in the next crop cycle. Soil physical properties (bulk density, porosity, texture, and saturated hydraulic conductivity) and chemical properties...

Enhancing Le-Conte Pear Trees Performance by Foliar Spray with Different Iron Concentrations CIGR Journal
El-Dahshouri, Mohamad Farouk.
Pear trees cv. Le Conte (Pyrus communis, L.) budded on Pyrus communis rootstock, uniform in vigor, thirteen years old, grown in sandy soil spaced at 4x4 m, under drip irrigation system in a private orchard located at El-Tall El-Kepeer, Ismailia Governorate, Egypt. Trees were foliar sprayed by five mineral iron concentrations (0.0, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 ppm) as ferrous sulphate (FeSO4.7H2O) form at two times (Mid May and June) during successive seasons 2014 and 2015. This study was conducted with the aim to examine the response of leaf chlorophyll content, active iron, nutrient status, yield components quantity and quality of Le Conte pear trees to foliar feeding of iron concentrations as well as to evaluation the current status of foliar fertilization...

Physical and chemical properties of granulated cane sugar "panelas" Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.
Guerra,Marisa Josefina; Mujica,María Virginia.
"Panela" is a natural sweetener obtained by concentrating sugar cane juice and handmade in small factories. In the study carried out, the physical and chemical properties of two commercial brands of artisanal granulated panelas and of one made on an experimental level were determined. Three lots of each sample were analyzed. The parameters measured were moisture, a w, protein, ash, minerals, reducing sugars, sucrose, pH, color (L, a and b), insoluble solids (IS), transmittance a 720 nm and filterability. In addition, a qualitative test to detect sulphur dioxide was performed. The parameters with higher variability were moisture (1.66-4.36 g.100 g-1), a w (0.51-0.69), reducing sugars (4.58-11.48 g.100 g-1), pH (5.58-6.90), and color. Potassium was the most...
