A coupled three-dimensional physical-biogeochemical model was developed in order to simulate the ecological functioning of the Rio de la Plata estuary and plume. The biogeochemical model reproduces the nitrogen cycle between five compartments: dissolved inorganic nitrogen, phytoplankton, zooplankton, detritus and dissolved organic nitrogen. The coupling is tested in seasonal climatological configurations and for the particular year 1999. The circulation is forced with Parana and Uruguay rivers discharges, NCEP wind and tide. The biogeochemical model includes loads of inorganic and organic nitrogen from both rivers. The model reproduces the correct tidal amplitudes in the estuary, as well as the most outstanding features of the observed horizontal and... |

At the duration of this study, a sample of 100 intact apricot fruits, canino variety were selected randomly. The seeds were shelled using a nutcracker and the intact kernels were separated manually. Then, some apricot seed and kernel physical and mechanical properties were determined as relative parameters for designing the apricot seed kernels separator. The obtained results may be summarized as follows:At 7.13% (w.b.) apricot seeds moisture content, the length, width and thickness values were 18.90, 16.48 and 11.31 mm, respectively. The surface area, projected area, volume, arithmetic mean diameter, geometric mean diameter, sphericity and aspect ratio values were 727.09 mm2, 244.60 mm2, 1847.69 mm3, 15.56 mm, 15.20 mm, 80.61 % and 87.53 %, respectively.... |

Engineering properties are very important in the design and manufacturing of processing machines. In this research work, the engineering (physical, aerodynamic and mechanical) properties of acha (Digitaria exilis) grains were determined as design parameters for the development of grain processing machines for the crop. The physical properties determined were length, width, thickness, arithmetic mean diameter, geometric mean diameter, roundness, sphericity, aspect ratio, surface area, projected area, volume, moisture content, one thousand seed weight, bulk density, true density and porosity. The average seed length, width and thickness were found to be 1.84 ± 0.055, 0.85 ± 0.023 and 0.75 ± 0.042 mm respectively. The average arithmetic and geometric mean... |

The engineering properties of Japan flowering crabapple for post-harvest applications were investigated in this study. The physical properties such as geometric mean diameter, sphericity, surface and projected areas, bulk and fruit densities, porosity, and colour characteristics were measured of Japan flowering crabapple. Mechanical properties (skin and flesh firmness, rupture force and cutting force) and chemical properties (total soluble solids content, titratable acidity and pH) of Japan flowering crabapple fruit were determined. The geometric mean diameter, sphericity and surface area of Japan flowering crabapple were found as 33.96 mm, 97.69% and 36.45 mm2, respectively. The bulk and fruit densities of Japan flowering crabapple were observed as 658.5... |
