Brevipalpus mites Donnadieu (Prostigmata: Tenuipalpidae) associated with ornamental plants in Distrito Federal, Brazil Neotropical Entomology
Miranda,Letícia C.; Návia,Denise; Rodrigues,José C.V..
Brevipalpus mites colonize a great number of fruit and ornamental plants. Mite species belonging to this genus have been associated with many plant viruses. Citrus leprosis (CiLV) is the most economically important virus transmitted by B. phoenicis mites. It has recently been shown that ornamental plant species can be alternative hosts of this virus. The high volume of trade and frequent movement of live ornamental plants make them efficient pest disseminators. Because of this, it is desirable to expand knowledge of potential pests aiming to guide the adoption of quarantine measures. This work reports ornamental plant hosts of Brevipalpus mites in the Distrito Federal (DF), as well the occurrence of symptoms consistent with Brevipalpus-borne plant viruses...

Diversity of mites in blackberry genotypes in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil Ciência Rural
Trinidad,Claudia Teresita Olmedo; Fagundes,João Pedro; Zorzo,Bruno; Nava,Dori Edson; Cunha,Uemerson Silva da.
ABSTRACT: Blackberry is part of the small-fruit group and the blackberry cultivation area is expanding as an important option for small farmers using the agroecological production system. Mites are prominent among the world’s major crop pests, as they can affect plants from growth to fruiting. The objective of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of phytophagous and predatory mites in different blackberry genotypes in the municipality of Pelotas, RS, Brazil. This study was carried out in the period Nov. 2015 - Oct. 2016, totaling 14 samples. A total of 11,158 mites were collected [phytophagous (5940) and predatory (323) mites, and those with varied feeding habits (4895)], which were distributed in 8 families. The species Neotetranychus asper (Feres...

NEW PLANT ASSOCIATIONS FOR Monalonion velezangeli (HEMIPTERA: MIRIDAE) IN GREEN URBAN AREAS OF BOGOTÁ (COLOMBIA) Acta biol.Colomb.
OCAMPO FLÓREZ,Valentina; DURÁN PRIETO,Juliana; ALBORNOZ,Marcela; FORERO,Dimitri.
ABSTRACT Monalonion velezangeli Carvalho and Costa (Hemiptera: Miridae) is a polyphagous plant bug recognized as one of the most important pest species of coffee and avocado in rural regions of Colombia. M. velezangeli is reported for the first time in green urban areas in the high Andean city of Bogotá (Colombia). Specimens were collected on eight species of urban trees planted in the city, of which five represent new plant associations for M. velezangeli. The plant species Schinus molle L. (Anacardiaceae) is for the first time reported as new host plant damaged by M. velezangeli under urban conditions.

New species of Hymenoptera associated with galls on Calliandra brevipes Benth. (Fabaceae, Mimosoidea) in Brazil Rev. Bras. entomol.
Penteado-Dias,Angélica M.; Carvalho,Fabrício M. de.
Four species of Hymenoptera: Tanaostigmodes ringueleti (Brèthes, 1924), T. mecanga sp.nov. (Chalcidoidea, Tanaostigmatidae), Allorhogas taua sp. nov. (Braconidae, Doryctinae) and Eurytoma sp. (Chalcidoidea, Eurytomidae) were reared from two different types of galls of Calliandra brevipes Benth. (Fabaceae, Mimosoidea) in Juiz-de-Fora, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The two Tanaostigmatidae species are probably the gall inducers; the Braconidae species probably is phytophagous inquiline in round gall type. The two new species are described and illustrated, including their immature stages.
