| A atividade alimentar anual, estacional e diária da curvina Plagioscion squamosissimus (Heckel, 1840) foi avaliada para a planície de inundação do alto rio Paraná (município de Porto Rico-PR) e para o reservatório de Itaipu. Os peixes foram capturados com redes de espera de diferentes malhagens, sendo as coletas realizadas mensalmente, de outubro de 86 a setembro de 88, no primeiro ambiente, e de novembro de 83 a fevereiro de 89, no segundo. Os aparelhos de pesca ficaram expostos por 24h, com despescas ao amanhecer (7h), durante o dia (15h) e ao anoitecer (23h) e a cada três horas, em coletas especiais, para determinação do ritmo diário. | Parasitological indexes of Austrodiplostomum compactum (Digenea, Diplostomidae) in fishes from the Paraná River, Presidente Epitácio region, state of São Paulo, Brazil, and their relationship with climate and water quality are evaluated. Fifty-one specimens of Plagioscion squamosissimus, 39 Geophagus surinamensis, 27 Hoplias malabaricus and 23 Cichla sp. were collected between June 2007 and June 2008. Water quality and rainfall indexes were measured monthly. P. squamosissimus had the highest parasite rate, with 98% total prevalence, intensity of infection varying between 1 and 255 and parasite mean abundance totaling 40.5 ± 9.9. | The present study investigates the δ13C and δ15N isotopic composition in frozen samples (control), samples in alcohol and in formaldehyde of Plagioscion squamosissimus and Hypophthalmus edentates. From each individual we extracted a strip of muscle from the region above the lateral line, in the dorsal fin base, that was divided into three equal parts, each one was submitted to one type of treatment: freeze – control group (-15oC), conservation in alcohol 70% and fixation in formaldehyde 4%. Samples were kept under those treatments for 30 days, washed and submerged in distilled water for 4 hours. | Estudou-se a infecção por Contracaecum sp. (Nematoda: Anisakidae) em tucunarés (Cichla ocellaris), corvinas (Plagioscion squamosissimus) e traíras (Hoplias malabaricus) provenientes do rio Paraná próximo à cidade de Presidente Epitácio, região ainda não estudada do Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Os peixes foram capturados mensalmente pelo período de agosto de 2000 a agosto de 2001 para análise parasitológica. O período de outubro/2000 a junho/2001 foi o de maiores temperaturas (26,7oC a 28,8oC) e entre novembro/2000 e maio/2001 de maiores índices de pluviosidade (291,6mm). | The aim of the present study was to characterize the larval development of Plagioscion squamosissimus (Heckel, 1840) morphometrically, collected at Itaipu reservoir from March 1988 to April 1990. It was obtained the samples monthly, with a conic-cylindrical plankton net with 0.5mm mesh. The morphological description of the larvae of P. squamosissimus was based on different stages of development. The specimens less than 6mm long present a moderate sized head and those that are larger than this length, present a large head. | Este trabalho demonstrou a presença de Diplostomum sp (Digenea) em corvinas (Plagioscion squamosissimus Heckel, 1840) do reservatório de Volta Grande (MG), avaliando, em condições naturais, a ocorrência do parasito, a intensidade de infestação e a sazonalidade. Os peixes foram coletados bimestralmente, com rede de espera, durante o período de dezembro de 1995 a dezembro de 1996, e dissecados para observação de parasitos. De 68 peixes examinados, 31 apresentaram-se parasitados no globo ocular. A prevalência foi de 45,6% e o número médio de parasitos de 13, variando de 1 a 34. |

| The aim of this study is to characterize some population biology parameters of P. squamosissimus, A. altiparanae and S. maculates, the dominant fish species of the Santa Bárbara river, a tributary of the Nova Avanhandava reservoir, low Tietê river. Fish samplings were performed monthly between September/2002 and August/2003, using gill nets with different mesh sizes. Females of all species have larger standard lengths than males (Mann-Whitney, p < 0.0001), and are more frequent in superior size classes (Kolmogorov-Smirnov, p < 0.0001). | The viability of an alternative method for estimating the size at sexual maturity of females of Plagioscion squamosissimus (Perciformes, Sciaenidae) was analyzed. This methodology was used to evaluate the size at sexual maturity in crabs, but has not yet been used for this purpose in fishes. Separation of young and adult fishes by this method is accomplished by iterative adjustment of straight-line segments to the data for length of the otolith and length of the fish.
