Edible iron yam and maize starch convenient food flavoring packaging films with lemon essential oil as plasticization Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.
SONG,Xiaoyong; CHENG,Luming; TAN,Lian.
Abstract Lemon essential oil was used as plasticizers to prepare iron yam/maize starch edible films. Changes of physical, microcosmic and antimicrobial properties of films were studied. Results showed that the addition of lemon essential oil led to the decrease of moisture content, transparency, whiteness index, water vapor permeability, solubility and tensile strength and the increase of b*, elongation and haze values. With the increase of lemon essential oil content, the antibacterial activity increased, and the surface and internal microstructure of the film became more and more heterogeneous. Compared with the control group, the tensile strength, water content and WVP of IYM/2LO films decreased by 21.9%, 23.5%, and 23.6%, respectively. When surfactant...

Physical ageing of epoxy in a wet environment: Coupling between plasticization and physical ageing ArchiMer
Le Guen-geffroy, Antoine; Le Gac, Pierre Yves; Habert, B.; Davies, Peter.
This paper shows how physical ageing and plasticization processes are coupled in an amine-based epoxy. The study combines several ageing conditions including thermal ageing in the dry state (from 40 to 60 °C), ageing in a humid environment (RH 50% and RH 75%) as well as immersion in seawater at several temperatures from 15 to 40 °C. First results are presented to highlight that the two processes (physical ageing and plasticization) both occur when the epoxy is immersed in water. A step-by-step approach is then used to evaluate how the plasticization process induced by the presence of water is affected by physical ageing and vice versa. It appears that the plasticization process, which leads to a large decrease in maximum stress under tensile loading, is...

Yield stress changes induced by water in polyamide 6: Characterization and modeling ArchiMer
Le Gac, Pierre-yves; Arhant, Mael; Le Gall, Maelenn; Davies, Peter.
This paper considers the effect of water content on mechanical properties of polyamide 6 when used in a humid environment. First an experimental section presents the tensile behavior of polyamide with different amounts of water, with and without a through-thickness water gradient. Water profiles are introduced by immersion in sea water at 25 °C. The effect of testing temperature is also investigated in order to consider the influence of macromolecular chain mobility on the mechanical behavior. Then, in a second section, modelling of yield stress is proposed based on physical considerations. This can be used for life time prediction of PA6 in humid environment when plasticization is the main degradation mechanism.
