Analyse bacteriologique de l'eau par mesure potentiometrique de la reduction de l'acide lipoique ArchiMer

A simple potentiometric technique to detect and enumerate the bio-indicators of water contamination is described. The technique consists in measuring the redox potential of a specific culture medium saturated with oxygen where bacteria are incubated in presence of lipoic acid (LA). These micro-organisms reduce LA to dihydrolipoic acid, giving rise to an important potential drop in the system. This potentiometric "signal" reveals the presence of active metabolic bacteria in the medium. The major assets of potentiometric measurements in presence of LA lies in the reliability and intelligibility of the results (the redox phenomenon being qualitatively and quantitatively studied), associated to a very simple technology. Benthic foraminifera as pollution indicator in the Bonny estuary, Niger delta. OceanDocs

A seasonal study of the diversity of benthic foraminifera in the Bonny estuary was carried out at ten Stations located at various zones in the estuary. Four diversity indices, species number[S], Fisher & shannon Wiener function H(S) Equitability (E) were employed in the analysis. Examination of the spatial distribution and seasonal variations of these indices provided information on the responses of the foraminiferal fauna pollution. Diversity indices, S& and H(s) were found to be consistently low at station 5 (NNPC Refinery jetty Okrika). The dominance of pollution – tolerant species such as Ammotium salsum, Miliammina fusca and Ammonia beccarii at this station was also observed. El presente estudio se considera de carácter preliminar especialmente en lo referente al cálculo de la concentración media letal (CL50), de esta manera se evalúa el grado de toxicidad del dispersante de petróleo BP 1100 WD considerado como agente contaminante cuando se utiliza para dispersar manchas de petróleo regado en el mar. Con esta información se establece el impacto potencial que puede producir este dispersante en el medio ambiente marino.

The survey of sediment and hydrological parameters in the old harbor of Bizerte has revealed that this ecosystem knows a high anthropogenic pressure. In this area waters were characterized by weak contents in dissolved oxygen and sediments, rich in fine fraction, were loaded in hydrocarbons and in organic matter. The free-living nematodes, predominant taxa, responded to these disturbances by a significant decrease in their densities and their biomasses and had tendency, notably at the most isolated sites, to penetrate deeply to escape surface sediments highly loaded in hydrocarbons and in organic matter.

Evaluation de la contamination chimique par les métaux traces (Cd, Pb, Hg et Zn) du zooplancton et de la sardinelle <Sardinella aurita>dans le golfe de tunis OceanDocs

La présente étude a pour but de déterminer l’organotropisme de quatre métaux traces (Cd, Pb, Hg et Zn) ainsi que leurs concentrations dans le zooplancton et dans trois organes (muscle, foie et branchies) de la sardinelle (Sardinella aurita) provenant du golfe de Tunis. Les résultats ont montré que les concentrations moyennes des quatre métaux dosés (Cd, Pb, Hg et Zn) sont plus élevées dans la sardinelle que dans le zooplancton. Ceci est dû à la bioamplification de ces éléments dans la sardinelle qui occupe un niveau trophique élevé de la chaîne alimentaire marine. Pour le Pb, le Hg et le Zn, les teneurs le plus élevées ont été enregistrées dans les branchies de la sardinelle, alors que le Cd est concentré davantage au niveau du foie. Les concentrations...

Mise en evidence et evaluation de l'enrichissement bacterien du film de surface des eaux littorales d'effluents urbains ArchiMer

Sea water samples were collected in the vicinity of urban non-treated, urban treated and industrial outfalls. The samples belonged to two differents types: the first one consisted of the surface film, the second was the corresponding water at 50 cm depth. The enumeration of the bacteria in both types of samples indicated a significant concentration of the mesophilic flora and of the indicators of fecal pollution in the surface film. The value of the concentrating factor depended largely on the nature of the sewage and did not reflect differences between the various bacterial groups. At one of the stations a very significant regression was demonstrated between surface sample and depth sample.

The behaviour of F specific bacteriophage in depurating shellfish with reference to their use as pollution indicator organisms ArchiMer

The behaviour of sex-pilli specific (F+) bacteriophage during the depuration process was investigated using Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) and edible mussels (Mytilus edulis) naturally contaminated with untreated sewage. F+ bacteriophage was eliminated considerably slower than E. coli. This effect was most pronounced in oysters which showed average T90 bacteriophage values of 62.5 hours compared with 11 hours for E. coli. F+ bacteriophage in mussels was largely confined to the digestive tract. The majority of E. coli were similarly located but, in contrast, counts were also distributed throughout the other internal tissues. Рассмотрена динамика численности различных групп гетеротрофных микроорганизмов в морской воде в течение дня и в течение года (бухта Круглая, район Севастополя). Отмечено, что численность гетеротрофных и нефтеокисляющих бактерий минимальна в зимний, максимальна - в летний период, когда температурный режим и количество питательных веществ оптимальны для микроорганизмов. Численность гетеротрофных, липолитических, амилолитических микроорганизмов, бактерий кишечной группы в летнее время увеличивается к концу дня, по сравнению с утренними часами.
