ABSTRACT Sweet potato is a vegetable with great potential due to its versatility of use, which covers human food, animal feed and biofuels. However, it is still little studied, especially regarding mineral nutrition and potassium. Thus, a study was conducted to evaluate potassium fertilizer doses (0, 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 kg/ha K2O) on mineral nutrition and yield of 'Beauregard' sweet potato in a typic Hapludult soil with low K level (0.3 mmolc/dm3). The experimental design was of randomized blocks with four repetitions. Harvest took place 123 days after seedling transplanting. Foliar K content, shoot, root and total dry matter, root total yield, root commercial yield, K accumulation, K content in the soil and K optimal economic dose were assessed. The... |

The use of potassium (K) rock powder can be an alternative for K supply of crops. Thus, to reduce K fertilizer imports from abroad, possibilities of extracting this nutrient from Brazilian rocks are being studied. The objective was to evaluate the effect of phonolite rock powder (F2) as K source (Ekosil®) on the air-dried fruit yield, nutrition and macronutrient export of Arabica coffee. The experiment was carried out on a dystroferric Red Latosol (Typic Haplorthox), in Piraju, São Paulo State, Brazil, in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 growing seasons. The experimental design was a randomized complete block, in a factorial 2 × 3 + 1 arrangement, with four replications. The treatments consisted of two K sources (KCl - 58 % of K2O and F2 - 8.42 % K2O) and three... |

Abstract The glycerin by-product of the production of biofuels (biodiesel) has possibility of agricultural use, but the scientific information is restricted. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of glycerin rates in the absence and presence of potassium fertilization on soil microbial activity, nutrition and production of beet (Beta vulgaris). The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse at Universidade Estadual Paulista, Jaboticabal, Brazil, using beet cv. Early Wonder, grown in pots with samples of Alfisol. The experimental design was randomized block, treatments were 0, 50, 100, 200 and 400 m3 ha-1 of glycerin, in the absence and presence of potassium (150 mg dm-3), with four replicates. Electrical conductivity, respiratory activity,... |

ABSTRACT The objective was to study the influence of potassium sulfate doses applied to the soil on the growth and production of green dwarf coconut (Cocos nucifera L.) grown in saline-sodic soil. The experiment was conducted from January 2013 to January 2016, in a commercial plantation in the Sector 7 of the ‘Várzeas de Sousa’ Irrigation District, PB, Brazil, in saline-sodic Ebanic Vertisol. The experiment used coconut plants belonging to green dwarf variety, arranged in a 7.0 x 7.0 m rectangular shape, starting the third year in the production stabilization stage. The adopted experimental design was randomized blocks, evaluating five doses of potassium sulfate (K2SO4) (0, 0.52, 1.04, 2.08 and 4.16 kg plant-1 year-1), with four replicates of four plants... |

The aim of this study was to evaluate the response to phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) fertilization and to establish the critical levels of P and K in the soil and in the plant tissue in pear trees. Two experiments were conducted in São Joaquim (SC), Brazil. In experiment 1, the plants received annually the application of increasing rates of phosphate fertilizer (0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 kg P2O5 ha-1), while in experiment 2, increasing rates of potassium fertilizer (0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 kg K2O ha-1) were applied annually. In the two experiments, soil was collected annually from the 0-10, 10-20 and 0-20 cm layers, and the available P (experiment 1) and exchangeable K (experiment 2) content was analyzed. Whole leaves were collected annually, which were... |

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the yield and water use of cherry tomatoes under soil water availability and potassium (K) doses in a greenhouse. The experiment was conducted in randomized blocks in a 52 fractional factorial design, corresponding to five levels of water availability and five K doses, with 13 combinations (4-0; 4-250; 4-500; 14-125; 14-375; 24-0; 24-250; 24-500; 34-125; 34-375; 44-0; 44-250; 44-500) (kPa-mg dm-3) and four replicates. A drip irrigation system with semi-automated irrigation control was used. The analyzed variables were shoot dry matter, number of fruits, yield, water consumption and water use efficiency. Highest cherry tomato yield occurs at soil water tension of 24 kPa and K dose of 290 mg dm-3. Soil... |
