Binary logit analysis was used to identify the factors influencing adoption of Global Positioning System (GPS) guidance systems by cotton farmers in 11 Mid-south and Southeastern states. Results indicate that adoption was more likely by those who had already adopted other precision-farming practices and had used computers for farm management. In addition, younger and more affluent farmers were more likely to adopt. Farmers with larger farms and with relatively high yields were also more likely to adopt. Education was not a significant factor in a farmer’s decision to adopt GPS guidance systems. |

Probit analysis identified factors that influence the adoption of precision farming technologies by Southeastern cotton farmers. Younger, more educated farmer who operated larger farms and were optimistic about the future of precision farming were most likely to adopt site-specific information technology. The probability of adopting variable-rate input application technology was higher for younger farmers who operated larger farms, owned more of the land they farmed, were more informed about the costs and benefits of precision farming, and were optimistic about the future of precision farming. Computer use was not important, possibly because custom hiring shifts the burden of computer use to agribusiness firms. |

ABSTRACT: After the liberation of Selective Availability (S/A) several GPS receivers started to have enough accuracy or precision for work with grid sampling in Precision Agriculture. There are few articles describing the accuracy and precision of these receivers. The objective of this work was compared and calculated the accuracy of two models very used for grid sampling in Brazil. The study was done in a flat surface, common in the Cerrados region. The geographical reference was determined by DGPS collecting data for 10 hous. The tested models (Garmin GPSIII Plus and Garmin etrex Vista) were evaluated for 5 days in the period of 7 a.m. to 17 p.m. The concept of Circular Error Probability (CEP) was uded for the accuracy and precision calculation. The... |

This study aimed to develop classifiers based on different combinations of spectral bands and vegetation indices from original, segmented and reflectance images in order to determine the levels of leaf nitrogen and chlorophyll in the bean, and to define the best time and best variables. A remote-sensing system was used, consisting of a helium balloon and two small-format digital cameras. Besides the individual spectral bands, four vegetation indices were tested: simple ratio, normalized difference, normalized difference in the green band, and modified-chlorophyll absorption. The classifiers proved to be efficient in determining levels of leaf nitrogen and chlorophyll. The best time for determining leaf N content was at 13 DAE (stage V4). The best... |
