A new species of Neoseiulus (Acari: Mesostigmata: Phytoseiidae) with a key for the Brazilian species of the genus Rev. Bras. Zool.
Rocha,Matheus dos Santos; Silva,Guilherme Liberato da; Ferla,Noeli Juarez.
Neoseiulus HUGHES, 1948 is currently one of the largest genus of Phytoseiidae Berlese. Neoseiulus demitei sp. nov., a new species of phytoseiid mite from Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, is illustrated and described based on specimens collected on Tibouchina sp. (Melastomataceae) plants. This new species differs from others by having most of propodossomal setae reaching the base of nearby setae and a constriction of ventrianal shield at level of preanal pores. Nevertheless, this new species is the first of the species subgroup kennetti described from Brazil. A key of Neoseiulus species reported in Brazil is also included.

Acaricide-impaired functional predation response of the phytoseiid mite Neoseiulus baraki to the coconut mite Aceria guerreronis. Repositório Alice
LIMA, D. B.; MELO, J. W. S.; GONDIM JÚNIOR, M. G. C.; GUEDES, R. N. C.; OLIVEIRA, J. E. de M.; PALLINI, A..
Acaricides may interfere with a myriad of interactions among arthropods, particularly predator?prey interactions. The coconut mite, Aceria guerreronis Keifer (Acari: Eriophyidae), and its phytoseiid predator, Neoseiulus baraki (Athias-Henriot) (Acari: Phytoseiidae), provide an opportunity to explore such interference because the former is a key coconut pest species that requires both predation and acaricide application for its management. The objective of the present study was to assess the effect of the acaricides abamectin, azadirachtin and fenpyroximate on the functional response of N. baraki to A. guerreronis densities. The following prey densities were tested: 5, 10, 20, 40 and 80 preys. The type of functional response and prey handling time (Th) were...

Age-dependent fecundity of Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) with sublethal doses of gammacyhalothrin BABT
Pereira,Alexandre Igor Azevedo; Ramalho,Francisco de Sousa; Bandeira,Catarina de Medeiros; Malaquias,José Bruno; Zanuncio,José Cola.
Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) was exposed to gammacyhalothrin to study the stimulatory effect of low concentrations of this pyrethroid. The doses studied were 23.4375, 11.7188, 5.8594, 2.9297, 1.4648, 0.7324 mg.litre-1 and water, as control. The third, fourth, and fifth instars of P. nigrispinus were shorter with all the doses of this insecticide. The survival and longevity of this predator was highest with the lowest doses. The oviposition period of P. nigrispinus decreased as the doses increased. The lowest pre-and postoviposition periods were found with 11.7188 mg.litre-1 of gammacyhalothrin. The dose 0.7324 mg.litre-1 increased the clutch interval. The egg viability was similar between the treatments. The number of eggs per...

Asymmetric intraguild predation of Harmonia axyridis (Pallas, 1773) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) on a native Coccinellidae guild Rev. Bras. entomol.
Castro-Guedes,Camila Fediuk de; Almeida,Lúcia Massutti de; Moura,Mauricio Osvaldo.
Abstract Harmonia axyridis is an exotic species that can cause serious impacts on native biodiversity in areas where it is introduced to act as a biological control agent. This predator is often involved with intraguild predation, in most cases with aphids predators. Here, we report the results of experiments designed to understand the outcome of the invasion of H. axyridis on native coccinellid aphidophagous guilds using intraguild predation as a theoretical framework. Tests were conducted to determine the interactions between 1st and 4th instars larvae and H. axyridis adults, with Cycloneda sanguinea, Cycloneda pulchella, Eriopis connexa and Hippodamia convergens larvae, as well as eggs predation rate. Two treatments were used: absence and presence of...

Biologia de Agistemus floridanus Gonzalez (Acari, Stigmaeidae) Zoologia
Ferla,Noeli Juarez; Moraes,Gilberto José de.
The rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.) (Euphorbiaceae) is attacked by various species of phytophagous mites in Brazil. Studies conducted in the State of Mato Grosso showed the presence of Agistemus floridanus Gonzalez, 1965 (Stigmaeidae) on rubber trees, associated with the mite Tenuipalpus heveae Baker, 1945. The aim of this work was to study the biology of that predator in the laboratory, when fed with T. heveae as prey. The study was started with 22 eggs, which resulted in 15 females reaching adult hood. To determine the effect of mating on oviposition, 30 females were used; half of those were maintained isolated and the remaining were maintained then with males during the whole adult stage. The stage of egg was the longest, with a duration of...

Chemically mediated arrestment of the predaceous mite Phytoseiulus persimilis by extracts of Tetranychus evansi and Tetranychus urticale. Repositório Alice
MORAES, G. J. de; McMURTRY, J. A..
Since Tetranychus evansi Baker and Pritchard had been observed to be unfavorable prey for several species of phytoseiid mite predators, a study was conducted to determine the possible existence of an allomone produced by this species against Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot. Instead, P. persimilis was strongly arrested by extracts of eggs adult and, especially, webbing plus excreta of T. evansi. Methanol extracts of Tetranychus urticae (Koch) showed a stronger arrestment than extracts of T. evansi.
