ABSTRACT The objective of the study was to determine whether or not there is a correlation between thermoresistance tests (TT) after semen thawing and pregnancy rate (PR) after fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI). Four different TT were performed on ten samples used for AI; a rapid test (RTT) (30min / 46°C) and three slow tests (STT): STT1 (60min/38°C), STT2 (180min/38°C), and STT3 (300min/38°C). Two hundred and fifteen multiparous crossbred cows were submitted to FTAI under the following protocol: on day zero (d0) the animals received a P4 device +EB; on d7 PGF2α; on d8 P4 was removed and eCG+EC were administered; IATF was performed on d10. Three gestational diagnoses (G D) were performed on d40, d70 and d120. The mean sperm motility (%) in RTT and... |

ABSTRACT Body development and reproductive performance of a hundred forty-two 14 to 15-month-old heifers, classified at weaning according to frame size as small, medium, and large, were evaluated. The parameters evaluated were: body weight, hip height, body condition score, weight gain, ovarian activity, and pregnancy rate. At weaning, body weight and hip height were significantly different among frame scores, (small – 133.0 kg, 92.2 cm; medium – 158.5 kg, 96.6 cm; and large – 185.2 kg; 100.2 cm). After weaning, heifers grazed together on natural pastures during the autumn and on ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum La.) during the winter and spring. Frame score differences remained until the beginning of the breeding season (BS), starting on average at 14 months... |

The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of calving to timed artificial insemination (C-TAI) interval on fertility of Bos taurus and Bos indicus cows and to determine the best C-TAI interval to include postpartum cows in TAI programs in each genotype (B. taurus and B. indicus). In experiment 1, a retrospective study was per-formed, with data from 2,709 TAI in Bos taurus and Bos indicus cows with different C- TAI intervals. There was a positive linear effect of C-TAI interval on the pregnancy probability (p< .0001). However, there was no effect or interaction with the geno-type. When C-TAI intervals were grouped in classes, pregnancy rate differed in groups (p< .05). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed, and... |

Abstract: The Doppler ultrasonography allows the characterization of blood flow and estimation of the functionality of reproductive organs. Therefore, it shows a great potential for use in multiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET) programs in ruminants. This study aimed to assess the effect of luteal blood flow and number of corpora lutea (CL) at the moment of embryo transfer to recipient on the establishment of pregnancy in sheep. In conclusion, both the subjective luteal blood flow and the number of CL did not influence the pregnancy rate in recipients of the Lacaune breed. [Efeito do fluxo sanguíneo luteal e número de corpos lúteos na taxa de gestação após transferência em tempo fixo de embriões criopreservados em receptoras Lacaune avaliadas por... |

Abstract: The effect of hCG administration on accessory corpus luteum (ACL) formation, CL area, and plasma progesterone (P4) concentration (ng/mL) seven days after breeding was studied in nulliparous Santa Inês sheep. Intravaginal 60 mg MAP sponges were inserted into ewes for six days and 300 IU eCG i.m. and 30 ?g d-cloprostenol latero-vulvar were administered 24 h before sponge removal. Ewes were naturally bred and, seven days after first mating (Day 0; D0), were treated with either 250 IU hCG (hCG group; n = 7) or 1 mL saline solution (control group; n = 7). Blood was collected to determine plasma P4 concentrations and sonograms were performed on Days 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, and 22. Number of CL on D7 was similar (P > 0.05) between hCG (1.3 ± 0.5) and... |

The aim of this study was to review the experience and outcomes of assisted reproduction cycles with embryos grown up to day 5 of development, comparing different parameters according to the ages of the patients. We retrospectively studied 1,874 assisted reproduction cycles where embryo culture was extended up to the fifth or sixth day of development. All IVF and ICSI cycles were included, comparing, according to patient age, the following rates: blastocyst formation, pregnancy, implantation and abortion. As control, we analyzed cycles with donated oocytes from young donors (OD). The number of embryos reaching the blastocyst stage is similar in all groups of patients. Only the OD group was different in terms of blastocyst formation, pregnancy and... |

Abstract: High reproductive efficiency is essential to guarantee sustainable livestock production and a satisfactory economic return for the meat producer. Reproductive biotechnologies and animal breeding play an important role in the livestock economy. These two factors have a long- established relationship between reproductive performance and profitability; consequently, improving reproductive and genetic efficiency will increase profitability. In Brazil, the beef livestock farming is practiced in all states and ecosystems in the country. Regardless of the production system, it is characterized by the predominance of the use of pastures. So beef cattle production systems are very different, with variable results. Advances in reproductive biotechnologies... |

Pregnancy establishing after artificial insemination (AI) in goats depends on many important aspects, including time of AI, ovulation and premature luteal regression. The knowledge of ovulation in relation to estrus onset, ovulation induction and strategies to prevent PLR can be valuable tools to increase pregnancy rate. This study tested the effect of hCG administration on pregnancy rate in artificially inseminated dairy cyclic goats after estrus synchronization Results of this study showed that hCG administration associated to AI significantly increased pregnancy rates in goats after estrus synchronization with dcloprostenol, which can be a valuable and promising tool to be applied in field conditions. |

Abstract: The hydrometra is an important cause of infertility in dairy goats. By the use of ultrasound (US), diagnosis of hydrometra became more evident and it was possible to detect the relatively high occurrence of concomitant follicular cysts. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate uterine drainage and fertility rate after the use of d-cloprostenol treatment associated or not to GnRH. The study was performed during the breeding season of 2015 in Minas Gerais, Brazil. again. The use of three doses of d-cloprostenol 10 days apart was efficient for draining the contents of the uterus resulting in a relative good pregnancy rate whilst GnRH promoted no extra benefits. |

We describe the reproductive biology of the coypu, Myocastor coypus (Molina, 1782), in western Japan, as an attempt to contribute to an efficient population control program of the coypu population. A total of 212 specimens (113 males and 99 females) were collected in the Tottori prefecture from February 2010 to January 2012. From the age estimation based on body weight and molar eruption pattern, we determined that both males and females reach sexual maturity at 4-6 months of age. Of the 72 mature females examined, 60 (83.3%) were pregnant, with a mean litter size of 6.5 ± 2.4 (mean ± SE). The onset of sexual maturity in the western Japanese population was relatively earlier when compared with indigenous and other introduced populations. Furthermore, the... |
