| Nine Neotropical species of Bruchomyia Alexander, 1920 have been previously described, all from South America. A new species of this rare genus, collected in caverns of the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, is described and named Bruchomyia mineira sp. nov. The new species is morphologically similar to B. argentina Alexander, 1920, but they can be differentiated from each other by characters of the eyes, M2 vein and base of gonostylus. |

| Motmuggen vormen een vast onderdeel van de fauna van de bebouwde omgeving. De larven leven veelal van organisch afval en de mugjes worden dan ook vaak in en om afvalbakken gezien. Het voorkomen van de verschillende soorten in deze biotoop worden besproken aan de hand van lichtvondsten van de auteur in Soest en door diverse personen binnenshuis verzamelde monsters, aangevuld met enkele handvangsten. Enkele taxonomische problemen binnen het genus Psychoda worden toegelicht en het overzicht over de verspreiding van de exoot Clogmia albipunctata wordt geactualiseerd. | This paper presents a specimen of phlebotomine sand fly with a bilateral anomaly in the style. Although such anomaly be rare in this group of insects, it may cause confusion in taxonomic identification and even lead to description of new species, increasing the number of synonymies. The specimen was measured and compared with the holotype and four paratypes of Micropygomyia schreiberi (Martins, Falcão & Silva, 1975) and confirmed that it belongs, in fact, to this species. |

| En Colombia están registradas 143 especies de Lutzomyia França, pero menos del 7% de éstas se encuentran incriminadas como vectores de Leishmania spp. Debido a la alta semejanza morfológica de algunas especies vectoras con otras no vectoras, se necesitan caracteres taxonómicos alternativos para identificar correctamente los flebotomíneos de cada zona geográfica del país. | Studies were conducted to compare the results of the collections of phlebotomines, in two distinct periods, i.e. before and after changed environmental conditions in Jussara county, Paraná State, Brazil. Collections were made near to a forest in Jussara farm, between February and April 1992. Six Falcão light traps were installed in houses and animals' shelters. Catches were made once a month and 35,783 phlebotomines were captured. Based on these data, sanitation was done in peridomiciliary area and domestic animals shelters were separated from domiciles in January 1994. | No período de janeiro a agosto de 1999 foram realizadas coletas de flebotomíneos (Diptera: Psychodidae) em duas áreas de floresta residual (Estrada do Turismo e Cidade de Deus), na periferia da cidade de Manaus (AM), tendo o objetivo de verificar as espécies e a estratificação vertical. Foram utilizadas armadilhas luminosas tipo CDC, colocadas nos fragmentos de florestas a um e dez metros de altura. Foram capturados 7.516 flebotomíneos distribuídos em 45 espécies; 4.836 espécimes, de 36 espécies, na estrada de Turismo e 2.680 exemplares, de 40 espécies, na Cidade de Deus. | A sandfly survey was carried out in 100 x 150 m patches of primary forest submitted to recent deforestation in order to determine its species composition 10-30 days after clearing. The following collecting methods were used: CDC traps whit black light; Malaise traps placed at 0.5, 1, 5 and 10m up from the the soil surface; Pennsylvania traps whit black light; Malaise traps, tree-base catches and human baits. A total of 2810 specimens of Lutzomyia França, 1924 and one species of Brumptomyia França & Parrot, 1921, were collected. | Estudo sobre a fauna de flebotomíneos (Diptera: Psychodidae), no Município de Chapada dos Guimarães, Mato Grosso, Brasil, mostrou a presença de duas espécies de Brumptomyia e 43 espécies de Lutzomyia, todas registradas pela primeira vez no Estado de Mato Grosso. Durante o período de três anos (1993 a 1995), coletamos espécimes para conhecer a diversidade de espécies e aspectos ecológicos da fauna de flebotomíneos da área. Chama-se a atenção para a presença de L. ayrozai, L. flaviscutellata e L. whitmani vetores incriminados na transmissão da leishmaniose cutânea e L. longipalpis, vetor da leishmaniose visceral no Brasil. |
