A new system to evaluate Organic Inputs in EU. How does if affect the grower Organic Eprints
Trapman, Marc.
Conclusions (1) What can be solved: - Possibly quicker - More transparent, technical and objective evaluation that allows for development What can not be solved: - Differences between countries due to lack of active policy for local registration of Organic Inputs Conclusions (2) What should be considered System effects in: - “domino” effects in the use of other PPP” - substitution of PPP’s - preventing resistance - moving organic production to geographical areas where more Inputs are allowed Conclusions (3) A transparent, technical and system-based evaluation of input materials, aimed at further and equal development of organic agriculture in all EU member states would be highly welcome!

Organic Eprints
Jansonius, PieterJans; Vijver, Lucy P.L.; Bloksma, Joke; Buchmann, Markus.

Certified organic agriculture in China and Brazil: Market accessibility and outcomes following adoption Organic Eprints
Oelofse, Myles; Høgh-Jensen, Henning; Abreu, L.S.; Almeida, Gustavo Fonseca de; Hui, Qiao Yu; Sultan, Tursinbek; de Neergaard, Andreas.
Based on three case studies in China and Brazil, this paper explores the terms of access for farmers' participation in certified organic agriculture (OA) and investigates the influence of adoption on productivity, nutrient budgets, income and labour use. Small-scale farmers converting to OA require substantial external production-related, marketing and certification support. Access to OA was strongly dependent upon the type of support available to farmers. Organization based on a contract-farming model resulted in OA only being an option available to a narrow group of farmers, whilst OA initiated by a farmer cooperative provided better access. Gross output was significantly higher for oranges, whilst for the other crops gross output was similar. However,...

Challenges for an organic food quality concept- the Inner Quality Concept Requirements demonstrated on an experimental concept Organic Eprints
Huber, MD M.A.S.; Bloksma, Drs. J.; van der Burgt, Drs. G.J.; van de Vijver, Dr. L.C.L..
At the Louis Bolk Institute, together with several international partners, years of work and several research projects were directed towards the validation of the "Inner Quality Concept"; an organic food quality concept. This concept intends to build two bridges. One bridge between crop management and food quality and another bridge between food quality and possible health effects for the consumer. This paper focuses on requirements for validating a concept, presenting examples from the work in the Louis Bolk Institute.

Consumers' Perceptions of Organic Foods in Bulgaria: Evidence from Semantic Differentials Application Organic Eprints
Vasileva, Elka; Ivanova, Daniela; Zabunov, Georgi; Tipova, Nina; Stefanov, Stiliyan.
The main tendency for most countries in Central and Eastern Europe is their organic production to be developed mainly for the purpose of export. This leads to the impossibility for organic products to be adapted to the local market and their price happens to be too high for consumers from these countries. The solution to this is the quick development and expansion of the domestic market for organic agricultural products and foods. The market of organic products in Bulgaria enlarged significantly in the last few years. Although the share of organic food products in the general food market in the country is relatively small - less than 5 %, the total area under organic products in Bulgaria (cultivated and wild collected) is more than 250 thousand. The...

Organic Eprints
Canali, Dr. Stefano; Riva, Dr. Francesco; Dell'Orco, Dr. Silvia.

Cultivating market relations - diversification in the Danish organic production sector following market expansion Organic Eprints
Thorsøe, Martin H.; Noe, Egon.
Developing a model to characterize the influence of the market on organic production has long been sought within agro-food studies. This paper explores how the market influences organic production by looking at the relationship between the market and producers’ engagement in trust and quality building as well as farm level production strategy in the Danish organic food market. Our perspective on the organic market is based on Actor-Network Theory (ANT) and, using qualitative interviews, we identify four market agencements, arrangements of actors endowed with agency: 1) standardizing market agencement, 2) personalizing market agencement 3) specializing market agencement and 4) aesthetifying market agencement. The market agencements enact multiple versions...

Danish case report: The Danish Food Communities Organic Eprints
Kjeldsen, Chris; Noe, Egon; Laursen, Klaus Brønd.
The Food Communities was chosen as a case for HealthyGrowth because they constitute a major novelty within the Danish foodscape. As indicated in section 3, the Food 2 Communities have emerged as the latest incarnation of a series of attempts to forge alternative food networks operating beyond the supermarket system. Denmark is distinguished by a large market share of organic food being sold via supermarkets, but The Food Communities are a novelty due to two factors, (1) they have experienced a rapid growth since the outset in 2010, and (2) they are organised in a decentralised manner, where they continue to split up the network in chapters, each operating within their distinct local area. The Food Communities are a predominantly urban phenomenon.
