Plant growth and development are sensitive to light. Light-responsive DNA-binding transcription factors have been functionally identified. However, how transcription initiation complex integrates light signals from enhancer-bound transcription factors remains unknown. In this work, we characterized mutations within the Arabidopsis HAF2 gene encoding TATA-binding protein-associated factor TAF1 (or TAFII250). The mutation of HAF2 induced decreases on chlorophyll accumulation, light-induced mRNA levels, and promoter activity. Genetic analysis indicated that HAF2 is involved in the pathways of both red/far-red and blue light signals. Entrainment of the circadian rythm of food demand by infradian cycles of light-dark alternation in Hoplosternum littorale (Teleostei) IRD

#Hoplosternum littorale$ (Hancock, 1828) shows a marked circadium rhythm of food demand. Feeding activity is mainly nocturnal, with two peaks, and is synchronized whith the diel light cycle. We tested the effect of infradian (period > 28h) light dark cycles on this rhythm in fish with demand-feeders : fish subjected to a 13.5 L/22.5 D light dark cycle for 8 days and a 25.5 L/10.5 D cycle for a further 8 days showed a strictly nocturnal feeding activity a response that only passively reflected the cycle alternation of light and dark. Etude de la pêche du poulpe (Octopus vulgaris) dans les eaux côtières de la Gambie et du Sénégal : l'explosion démographique de l'été 1986 IRD

Pendant l'été 1986 les captures de poulpes dans les eaux côtières de la Gambie et les eaux avoisinantes du Sénégal, jusqu'à alors faibles, ont été estimées à près de 25 000 tonnes. Elles ont nettement diminué en 1987-1988, mais 1988 montre une reprise incontestable. La structure en âge des prises de l'année 1986 a été établie. L'essentiel des captures concerne des individus âgés d'environ un an. Les rendements les plus élevés ont eu lieu en juillet et ont souvent dépassé les 10 tonnes/jour pour des chalutiers de 1000 à 1500 chevaux. La pêche est meilleure de jour que de nuit dans un rapport moyen de 1,38. Les captures ont portées sur des individus en migration; cette migration pourrait être liée à la reproduction. During winter, gathering of starlings is studied in 3 very different sites in western France. A positive correlation is found between the size of starling flocks and the time of the day.
