Diapause and different seasonal morphs of Euschistus heros (Fabr.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) in Northern Paraná State Anais da SEB
Mourão,Ana P. M.; Panizzi,Antônio R..
The Neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros (Fabr.), was collected on sunflower [Helianthus annuus (L.)], soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill], star bristle [Acanthospermum hispidum (DC.)], and under fallen leaves of mango tree [Mangifera indica (L.)] and privet (Ligustrum lucidum Ait.), during one year, to evaluate the diapause incidence and the occurrence of different seasonal morphs. The majority of the insects (ca. 90%) with mature reproductive organs was observed during the summer (December-March), when E. heros was found on soybean or on sunflower; in the beginning of autumn, most insects (87%) showed immature reproductive organs, and they were found on star bristle and under fallen leaves. Bugs with mature reproductive organs had more developed...

Effect of Season on the Reproductive Organs of the Female African Giant Rat (Cricetomys gambianus) in Zaria, Nigeria International Journal of Morphology
Ali,M. N; Onyeanusi,B. I; Ayo,J. O; Ojo,S. A; Salami,S. O; Nzalak,J. O; Byanet,O.
The study was carried out to determine the effect of season on the female reproductive organs of the African Giant rat using the standard methods, with the aim of obtaining the base-line values. The weights of the oviduct/uterus, vagina and the entire tubular organ were consistently higher during the harmattan season (0.789 ± 0.07 g, 2.708 ± 0.19 g and 3.455 ± 0.25 g, respectively) than the hot dry (0.591 ± 0.02 g, 2.239 ± 0.13 g and 2.831 ± 0.14 g, respectively) and the rainy season (0.723 ± 0.04 g, 2.412 ± 0.01 g and 3.148 ± 0.12 g, respectively). The mean weight and length of the ovary were not significantly different throughout the season, suggesting that the AGR may breed throughout the year. The slight increase in the weight of the tubular organ...

Le ceteau Dicologoglossa cunetata (Moreau), sa biologie et sa peche dans le sud du golfe de Gasgogne. ArchiMer
Forest, A.
This study deals with D.cuneata, a small soleid listed among the spp of NEAFC Recommendation 2 and exploited by the 'artisanal' trawlers in the South of the Bay of Biscay. The gonads/gutted fish wt ratio has been calculated throughout a yr, and shows that young Dicologoglossa are able to reproduce at age-group II. Spawning takes place during the 3rd quarter. Growth has been determined by otolith reading and length frequency analysis; Bertalanffy's and Gompertz's equations parameters have been studied, and attempts to estimate the instantaneous rate of total mortality have been made. The results are: male Z 3-5=0.74 and 0.83, female Z 3-5=0.96 and 1.35. Selectivity experiments carried out on board of R/V 'La Palagia' give a selection factor of 3.9. The...

SUBLETHAL DOSES OF MALATHION ALTER MALE REPRODUCTIVE PARAMETERS OF Eisenia foetida International Journal of Morphology
Espinoza-Navarro,Omar; Bustos-Obregón,Eduardo.
Malathion is an organophosphorate insecticide whose main acute poisonous effect is the inhibition of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. This pesticide is widely used and has been reported to damage mice spermatogenesis. The objective of this work was to evaluate the toxic risk of malathion, earthworm Eisenia foetida (Annelida, Oligochaeta) like biological model was used and testicles and spermatozoa of animal controls and treaties were analyzed. Earthworms with developed clitellum were used and they were dewed with sublethal single doses of 0, 80, 150, 300 and 600mg of malathion for kilogram of soil (LD50 = 880mg/kg dry soil). Control groups were added only distilled water. Each group was analyzed 1, 5, 15 and 30 days post treatment. The results observed in...
