Comparative biology of two congeneric stinkbugs, Chinavia impicticornis and C. ubica (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) 86
Silva,Cleonor Cavalcante Alves; Laumann,Raul Alberto; Moraes,Maria Carolina Blassioli; Aquino,Michely Ferreira Santos de; Borges,Miguel.
The objective of this work was to compare the biology of Chinavia impicticornis and C. ubica (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), two species of stinkbugs that occur as secondary pests in soybean. Life table procedures were used for evaluating nymphs, and fecundity tables for evaluating adults, in order to establish the demographics of the two species. The two species have similar demographic parameters, and the development of immature stages, from egg to adult, had similar duration periods of approximately 30 days. In both species, eggs and second-instar nymphs were the stages with higher mortality. Total egg production did not differ between females of both species. Fecundity and survival curves for adults showed similar trends in both species. However, C. ubica...

Culture of Eisenia fetida (Annelida, Lumbricidae) on puffed rice scrap in outdoors and laboratory conditions 67
Schuldt,Miguel; Rumi,Alejandra; Gutiérrez Gregoric,Diego E; Caloni,Nicolás; Bodnar,Josefina; Revora,Natalia; Tasso,Victoria; Valenti,Mariano; Varela,Julio; De Belaustegui,Horacio.
Industrial puffed rice scrap increases the carbon/nitrogen ratio in carbon-poor biodegradable organic matter, such as broiler chicken beddings (C/N= 14.6) (droppings + sunflower husks), optimizing the composting process. In Eisenia fetida field experiences (bimonthly sampling) done on cultures managed through self-inoculation (addition of 8-16% scrap to the chicken bedding), the substrate was accepted. Population increase and cocoon production, measured 127 days after the start, were not significantly different from control plots (broiler chicken bedding). Population size expanded with a nominal (nd) and effective (ed) increase of 2.69 and 3.51 times respectively compared to the initial numbers. The carrying capacity of the different organic matter...

Efeito de sinigrina aplicada em folhas de brássicas sobre características biológicos de Plutella xylostella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) - DOI: 10.4025/actasciagron.v32i1.753 1
Carvalho, Jackeline da Silva; UNESP; De Bortoli, Sergio Antonio; UNESP; Thuler, Robson Thomaz; UNESP; Goulart, Roberto Marchi; UNESP; Volpe, Haroldo Xavier Linhares; UNESP.

Effect of female weight on reproductive potential of the predator Brontocoris tabidus (Signoret, 1852) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) 52
Oliveira,Isaias; Zanuncio,José Cola; Serrão,José Eduardo; Zanuncio,Teresinha Vinha; Pinon,Tobias Baruc Moreira; Fialho,Maria do Carmo Queiroz.
The objective of this work was to determine the fecundity of the predator Brontocoris tabidus (Signoret) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) females of two weight classes aiming to define, which one presented higher productivity in the laboratory. Males and females of B. tabidus were reared from nymphs fed with Tenebrio molitor L. (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) pupae in laboratory. Females of B. tabidus weighting 95 to 150 mg and those with 160 to 220 mg constituted two treatments. Oviposition period and numbers of egg masses, eggs and nymphs per female of B. tabidus were higher in the treatment with heavier females, while the periods of preoviposition, between egg mass laying, egg incubation and number of eggs per egg mass, besides the percentage of nymphs hatched...

Fecundity, embryo size and embryo loss in the estuarine shrimp Salmoneus carvachoi Anker, 2007 (Crustacea: Alpheidae) from a tidal mudflat in northeastern Brazil 84
Oliveira,Mário Vitor; Costa-Souza,Ana Carla; Mariano,Rodolfo; Almeida,Alexandre Oliveira.
Abstract Studies on fecundity and embryo size have been frequently used to infer about the reproductive potential, embryogenesis, and the energy investment in embryo production in crustaceans. These parameters are relevant to the knowledge of life-history and diversity of reproductive strategies developed by this group. This study addressed the embryo production by the estuarine shrimp Salmoneus carvachoiAnker, 2007, a poorly known caridean shrimp. We investigated whether there was (1) a correlation between fecundity and carapace length, (2) an increase in embryo volume along the embryonic development, and (3) loss of embryos along development. In addition, we investigated whether the esternite length and height and width of the pleura of the second...
