Reproduction of most insects depend on nutrients accumulated during the larval stage, but many lepidopteran species will also depend on nutrients obtained at the adult stage. Feeding at the adult stage allows the intake of carbohydrate and amino acid rich solutions, which may have an effect on the species reproduction and population growth. The objectives of the current study were to characterize the effects of sugar consumption by adults of the potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller), on its reproduction. Anatomia e microanatomia do sistema reprodutor de Rectartemon (Rectartemon) depressus (Heynemann) (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Streptaxidae): complexo fálico Zoologia

It is described the anatomy and microanatomy of the phallus complex of Rectartemon depressus (Heynemann, 1868). The complex is composed by a phallus, a diverticle of the phallus and an epiphallus, where the deferens duct is thrown in: the retractor muscle is splitted in two parts, inserted into the region of the epiphallus through a smaller branch, and at the extremity of the diverticle, through a longer and thiner branch. The lumen of the phallus, epiphallus and diverticle have corrugations and thorns. On the phallus the thorns are arranged in a protuberance and disposed alternately in rows, ali with an aculeus form and with a chestnut collor point and a yellow basis.

Anatomy of the male reproductive system of Phrynops geoffroanus (Testudines: Chelidae) - doi: 10.4025/actascibiolsci.v33i4.8091 Biological Sciences

The reproductive system of male Phrynops geoffroanus adults is macroscopically described and the variation in testicular biometry is evaluated. A pair of oval testes is connected by the efferent ductules to the epididymis, which continue as deferent ducts, which emerge in the penis. The volume of the gonads showed the highest averages during spring and summer months. GSI varied significantly throughout the year, with the highest averages observed in the months that correspond to the end of spring and the beginning of summer, when the reproduction of the species takes place, and the lowest averages were seen in winter, suggesting a cyclical testicular activity.

The absence of morphological external characteristics that allow the recognition of the sex as well as the presence of both male and female gonopores in the same animal [except in some sexual forms of Parastacus nicoleti (Philippi, 1882)] gives rise to the hypothetical existence of some form of hermaphroditism in crayfishes belonging to the genus Parastacus Huxley, 1879. Specimens of Parastacus brasiliensis (von Martens, 1869) were collected in a rivulet at Mariana Pimentel municipality, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. In the laboratory they were reared and dissected. Aspectos da fenologia, biologia da polinização e reprodução de Jacquemontia multiflora foram estudados na Fazenda Catalunha, Santa Maria da Boa Vista-PE. J. multiflora é uma liana anual, que apresenta floração do tipo cornucópia, com pico desta fenofase no bimestre março/abril, que corresponde ao final da estação chuvosa. As flores estão reunidas em cimeiras que apresentam eixo principal desenvolvido, expondo as flores acima da folhagem. Aspectos da biologia da polinizacao e do sistema de reproducao de Gliricidia sepium foram estudados no periodo de mar?o a dezembro de 1999, entre 05:30 e 17:00h., em uma populacao introduzida na Embrapa Semi-Arido (Petrolina, estado de Pernambuco). Quinze individuos da populacao foram marcados e acompanhados quinzenalmente para as observacoes dos estudos fenologicos. Biologia reprodutiva e polinização de Jacquemontia nodiflora (Desr.) G. Don (Convolvulaceae) em Caatinga na região de Petrolina, PE, Brasil. Repositório Alice

O principal objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar aspectos da biologia da polinização, comportamento e frequência de visitantes florais, reprodução e fenologia de Jacquemontia nodiflora em área de Caatinga hiperxerófila, em Petrolina-PE, no período de março de 2004 a março de 2005. Os dados fenológicos mostraram que a brotação, floração e frutificação concentram-se na estação chuvosa, enquanto a senescência foliar ocorre na estação seca, indicando a influência de precipitação no processo de reprodução. Este trabalho avaliou o efeito do farelo e da farinha de semente de algodao no ganho de peso e na atividade testicular de alevinos de tilapia-do-nilo (Oreochromis niloticus). Cento e cinqueta alevinos com peso medio inicial de 1,26 g foram mantidos em aquarios de 45 L, com renovacao continua d'agua, e alimentados por 120 dias com dietas isoproteicas (28% PB) e isocaloricas (4.030 Kcal EB/kg de racao) contendo 0%, 2%, 4% e 6% de sementes de algodao descorticada e moida, e 24% de farelo de algodao. Foi observado que os niveis avaliados interferem na atividade testicular, diminuindo a espermatogenese, embora nao tenham comprometido de forma significativa o ganho de peso dos alevinos.

This review considers some historical and recent investigations into the response of the leaf, root and reproductive system to the environment. Monteith's analysis of the response of plants to intercepted radiation is appropriate for analyzing the productivity of bananas and plantains. Namibian hake is the most important fish resource in Namibia. This monograph is a compilation of all the hake data, historic and recent, that has been used to inform stock assessment and management since the late 1970s. It presents the statistical catch-at-age analysis used to evaluate the state of the Namibian hake resource under different assumptions. This analysis treats the two hakes, Merluccius paradoxus and M. capensis, as a single stock. The data and modeling show that the stock has not as yet recovered to its maximum sustainable yield level, despite foreign fishing effort having been removed in 1990. A detailed preliminary histological analysis of Helobdella hyalina Ringuelet, 1942 male system from Los Talas, Buenos Aires, Argentina is described. Six pairs of testisacs, located between the crop caeca, form the male reproductive system. Each testisac is clothed by the mesotelium. Inside it, the germinal cells are connected to the citophore and develop functional unit called poliplast. The spermatozoa are released into testisacs after the reabsortion of the citophore. This study described the reproductive system and gonadal development of Octopus rubescens from Bahía de Todos Santos, Baja California, Mexico. A total of 65 organisms, 35 males weighing 7.2 to 543.4 g and 30 females from 9.4 to 87.7 g where analyzed. The gonad development was defined through histological methods using Hematoxylin-eosin and Arteta- trichrome stains. Mixed pastures of grasses with forage peanut (Arachis pintoi) have shown positive economic impacts.
