Presentations focused mainly on the following marine resources: squids Illex argentinus and Loligo sanpaulensis; and fish species southern blue whiting Micromesistius australis, patagonian hoki Macruronus magellanicus, kingklip Genypterus blacodes, patagonian toothfish Dissostichus...

OceanDocs
Cañete, G.R.; Dato, C.V.; Villarino, M.F..
Pursuant to SAGyP resolution No. 814/93, during August-December 1995, six INIDEP Fishery Observers trips on board of processing vessels of the Argentine fleet were carried out. They represented 256 navigation days, 232 effective fishing days, 725 fishing trawls and 2,245 trawling hours. Data measured on board were compared to those reported in the fishing log corresponding to the same cruise and submitted to the DNPyA by the Skipper. Catches observed and reported differ by 3985,7 t (28.2. ), with a maximum difference of 1,200 t in a single cruise. In the case of trawling hours, an important fluctuation of values was observed and, in two cases, the number of hours declared exceeded those actually performed (111 and 72). In the other four cruises, between 3...

Etat de l'art des véhicules sous-marins autonomes, verrous technologiques ArchiMer
Michel, J; Duranton, R.
Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, also called "free-swimming vehicles" are self propelled bodies, equipped with their own energy package and with no solid communication link with the surface. At the beginning of the 90s, a renewed interest from the Underwater Intervention Community for autonomous vehicles and quite a number of new projects were announced or started. The present paper aims at presenting an updated State of the Art on the development of autonomous vehicles. It addresses the following points: A brief historical review presents some existing systems and uses. The French experience, in particular, allows to position the potential, and complementary contribution of autonomous vehicles, in a range of various operational systems. A short review of...

Présentation du "Laboratorium voor Ekologie en Systematiek" (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) OMA

The presentation of the research programme of "Laboratorium voor Ekologie en Systematiek" has to be considered an interdisciplinary programme. The communications that follow, therefore, only make sense in a more general context.

Task Team to Establish and Maintain Co-operation Between IODE and Research Programmes OceanDocs
Keeley, R.; Narayanan, S..
Over the last two decades, the number and complexity of international cooperative programmes has increased. We are just completing WOCE, and JGOFS, but there is the IGBP, CLIVAR, GOOS, GCOS and GTOS among others. Many of these programmes originated in the research community. Using WOCE as an example, the programme organized 13 Data Assembly Centres (DACs) whose jobs were to assemble, quality control, and prepare the data for the final archive. IODE data centres participate in 4 of these DACs while another 4 DACs (non-IODE) handle data that are also managed by many IODE data centres, thus duplicating the effort. The remainder of the DACs dealt with data outside of traditional IODE data centre responsibility. The TOGA/TAO centre at PMEL is an example of a...

The Australian mariculture industry: Finfish, molluscs and crustaceans. ArchiMer
Baker, J; Kenway, M.
Australia's interest in mariculture has been comparatively recent when compared with the developments in many other Pacific countries. Two exceptions are native oysters, cultivated for food since the late 1880's, and pearl oysters which have been cultured, particularly in the northern part of Australia, following the initial work of Saville-Kent.
