A new view on aphid resistance in melon: the role of Aphis gossypii variability National Institute of Agronomic Research

Resistance to Aphis gossypii in Cucumis melo has been largely studied but A. gossypii variability has never been considered. Resistance to colonization by A. gossypii, clone NM1, and to non persistent virus transmission by this clone is conferred by a NBS-LRR gene called Vat, isolated in the PI 161375 accession. We investigated resistance to A. gossypii with four clones of A. gossypii that belong to two very distinct genotypes, NM1 and C9. The Vat gene conferred a high level of resistance to a NM1 clone and partial resistance to a C9 clone. Analysis of genomic sequences from peanut (Arachis hypogaea) Electron. J. Biotechnol.

Peanut is an important legume crop across the world. However, in contrast to most legume crops, groundnut lacks taxonomic proximity to any major model genome. A relatively large number of genomic sequences were generated from groundnut as part of a microsatellite marker development project. In the current study, a total of 1312 sequences were analyzed of which 448 contained microsatellite motifs. All sequences (GenBank Accessions: BZ999351-CC000573) were analyzed after clustering for possible similarity with publicly available sequences from Arabidopsis, Lotus, soybean and Medicago. Abstract The study of transferability of simple sequence repeats (SSR) among closely related species is a well-known strategy in population genetics, however transferability among distinct genera is less common. We tested cross-genera SSR amplification in the family Cactaceae using a total of 20 heterologous primers previously developed for the genera Ariocarpus, Echinocactus, Polaskia and Pilosocereus, in four taxa of the genus Cereus: C. fernambucensis subsp. fernambucensis, C. fernambucensis subsp. sericifer, C. jamacaru and C. insularis. O objetivo deste trabalho foi selecionar coeficientes de similaridade para serem aplicados a conjuntos de genótipos de algodoeiro com baixa diversidade genética. Analisou-se um conjunto de 65 linhagens e 4 cultivares de algodão, com marcadores de RAPD e SSR, e estimou-se a similaridade genética de acordo com sete coeficientes de similaridade: Coincidência Simples, Rogers & Tanimoto, Ochiai, Hamman, Jaccard, Dice e Russel & Rao. Abstract Trypoxylon is a genus of solitary crabronid wasps whose population genetics is poorly known. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the genetic variation and differentiation among five populations of Trypoxylon albitarse, a species widely distributed throughout the Neotropics, with records from Panama to northern Argentina. Genetic characterization of 12 heterologous microsatellite markers for the giant tropical tree Cariniana legalis (Lecythidaceae) Genet. Mol. Biol.

Twelve microsatellite loci previously developed in the tropical tree Cariniana estrellensis were genetically characterized in Cariniana legalis. Polymorphisms were assessed in 28 C. legalis individuals found between the Pardo and Mogi-Guaçu River basins in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Of the 12 loci, 10 were polymorphic and exhibited Mendelian inheritance. The allelic richness at each locus ranged from 2-11, with an average of 7 alleles per locus, and the expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.07-0.88. These loci showed a high probability of paternity exclusion. The characteristics of these heterologous microsatellite markers indicate that they are suitable tools for investigating questions concerning population genetics in C. legalis.

Genetic characterization of cassava ( Manihot esculenta ) landraces in Brazil assessed with simple sequence repeats Genet. Mol. Biol.

Based on nine microsatellite loci, the aim of this study was to appraise the genetic diversity of 42 cassava ( Manihot esculenta ) landraces from selected regions in Brazil, and examine how this variety is distributed according to origin in several municipalities in the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Amazonas and Mato Grosso. Background: The object of this work was to determine the genetic and allelic diversity of Solanum species present in Chile, assessing allelic distribution among native varieties and commercial cultivars of Solanum tuberosum ssp. tuberosum L., using microsatellite markers. Thirty rice cultivars were evaluated for salinity tolerance during the seedling stage and were divided into five tolerance groups including tolerant (T), moderately tolerant (MT), moderately susceptible (MS), susceptible (S) and highly susceptible (HS) which comprised 5, 10, 9, 4 and 2 cultivars respectively. Identification of QTLs for pod and kernel traits in cultivated peanut by bulked segregant analysis Electron. J. Biotechnol.

Bulked segregant analysis was used to identify simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers associated with pod and kernel traits in cultivated peanut, to permit rapid selection of superior quality genotypes in the breeding program. SSR markers linked to pod and kernel traits were identified in two DNA pools (high and low), which were established using selected F2:6 recombinant individuals resulting from a cultivated cross between a runner (Tamrun OL01) and a Spanish (BSS 56) peanut. To identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for pod and kernel-related traits, parents were screened initially with 112 SSR primer pairs. The survey revealed 8.9% polymorphism between parents.
