Chili peppers belong to the genus Capsicum and have been studied for their bioactivity, provided by secondary metabolites, which can be used for medicinal and agricultural purposes. Some Capsicum species have been submitted to in vitro cultivation systems of cell suspensions, which have been largely reported as safe and standardized methods of production of secondary compounds. The objective of this study was to determine a protocol for the establishment of cell suspensions from stems of the cultivar C. chinense cv. Airetama. For this, it was necessary to determine the combinations and concentrations of growth regulators for callus induction and to study the growth pattern of the calluses with a focus on the deceleration phase. In this phase the callus... |

Capsicum annuum is notable for its secondary metabolites, which can be of great interest for use in agriculture as alternatives to agrochemicals. Cell suspensions have been used for in vitro largescale production of secondary metabolites. The aim of this study was to dedifferentiate leaf cells of Capsicum annuum cv. Pimentão Amarelo (yellow bell pepper) into calluses, and to study their growth pattern, focusing on the deceleration phase, when they can be subcultured to establish cell suspensions. Leaf explants were inoculated on MS medium supplemented with the growth regulators 2,4-D (0, 4.52, 9.05 and 18.10 µM) and BA (0, 4.44, 8.88 and 17.76 µM) in factorial combinations. Callus formation was evaluated weekly for 42 days, by assessing the number of... |

The genus Capsicum belongs to the Solanaceae botanical family and is notable for the production of secondary metabolites of medicinal and economical importance. In vitro methods have been successfully utilized for the large scale production of plant secondary metabolites. The objective of this study was to establish a protocol for callus induction from leaves, nodal and internodal segments of the cultivar C. annuumvar. annuumcv. Iberaba Jalapeño, and to determine the growth pattern of the calluses, aiming at the identification of the deceleration phase, when the callus cells must be subcultured for the establishment of cell suspensions and the production of secondary metabolites. The explants were inoculated into a medium supplemented with BA and 2,4-D in... |
