Characterization of plant growth-promoting bacteria inhabiting Vriesea gigantea Gaud. and Tillandsia aeranthos (Loiseleur) L.B. Smith (Bromeliaceae) Biota Neotropica

Microorganisms that live inside and around a plant can supply it with essential substances, such as phytohormones and essential nutrients. The present investigation aimed to isolate and characterize the phyllosphere, the endophytic, and the water tank bacteria associated with Vriesea gigantea and Tillandsia aeranthos. The bacteria were tested for siderophore and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) production, phosphate solubilization, and presence of the nif H gene. Genetic diversity of the bacterial isolates was evaluated by rep-PCR. Sixty-eight bacterial strains were isolated from 3 different microhabitats of V. gigantea and from 2 microhabitats of T. aeranthos bromeliad plants. Genetic diversity of siderophore-producing bacteria of tobacco rhizosphere BJM

The genetic diversity of siderophore-producing bacteria of tobacco rhizosphere was studied by amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis (ARDRA), 16S rRNA sequence homology and phylogenetics analysis methods. Studies demonstrated that 85% of the total 354 isolates produced siderophores in iron limited liquid medium. A total of 28 ARDRA patterns were identified among the 299 siderophore-producing bacterial isolates. The 28 ARDRA patterns represented bacteria of 14 different genera belonging to six bacterial divisions, namely ?-, ?-, ?-Proteobacteria, Sphingobacteria, Bacilli,and Actinobacteria. Especially, ?-Proteobacteria consisting of Pseudomonas, Enterobacter, Serratia, Pantoea, Erwinia and Stenotrophomonasgenus encountered 18 different ARDRA groups....

In the last decades, the use of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria has become an alternative to improve crop production. Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar trifolii is one of the most promising rhizobacteria and is even used with non-legume plants. This study investigated in vitro the occurrence of plant growth-promoting characteristics in several indigenous R. leguminosarum biovar trifolii isolated from soils in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Isolates were obtained at 11 locations and evaluated for indoleacetic acid and siderophore production and inorganic phosphate solubilization. Bacteria that colonize plant roots and promote plant growth are referred to as plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). PGPR are highly diverse and in this review we focus on rhizobacteria as biocontrol agents. Their effects can occur via local antagonism to soil-borne pathogens or by induction of systemic resistance against pathogens throughout the entire plant. Several substances produced by antagonistic rhizobacteria have been related to pathogen control and indirect promotion of growth in many plants, such as siderophores and antibiotics. Production of yellow-green fluorescent pigment by Pseudomonas fluorescens BABT

A medium was prepared from brewery waste yeast with and without mineral salts to study growth and yellow-green fluorescent pigment production (YGFP) by Pseudomonas fluorescens. The King's medium used for detection of siderophore production were expressively weaker inductors of YGFP formation when compared to FYE medium. Although FYE and CYE could be used for growth of P. fluorescens, only FYE was an attractive medium for detection of YGFP strain producers.

Pyoverdine use for the control of passion fruit bacterial blight PAB

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of a bacterial filtrate containing pyoverdine on the population dynamics of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. passiflorae, and the severity of passion fruit bacterial blight. The treatments were: King’s B medium solution; King’s B medium solution with 2 μmol L-1 Fe2+ supplementation; and King’s B medium filtrate containing two concentrations of the siderophore pyoverdine produced by Pseudomonas sp. The filtrate containing pyoverdine at Abs363 = 0.231 (highest concentration) reduces the number of cells of X. axonopodis pv. passiflorae, and at Abs363= 0.115 and Abs = 0.231 significantly reduces the severity of bacterial blight.

Siderophore production and probiotic effect of Vibrio sp. associated with turbot larvae, Scophthalmus maximus ArchiMer

The proportion of vibrio E, dominant in healthy turbot larvae, was artificially increased in the rotifer enrichment medium. The maid effect of this vibrio enrichment was to improve the resistance of larval turbot challenged with a pathogenic strain of Vibrio splendidus, vibrio P. The improvement of the survival rates was significant with 1.5 x 10(6) CFU of vibrio E added per mi of enrichment medium, and it was still maximum at the hi hest dose tested (5 x 10(7) CFU.ml(-1); 80 +/- 2% of survivors after 48 h of challenge, versus 50 +/- 2 % for the control group). Further in vitro characterisation showed that vibrio E was able to grow in the presence of the chelating agents EDDHA and EDTA, while producing siderophore, as revealed by chrome azurol S dyeing....

The exploration of the antibacterial mechanism of fe3+ against bacteria BJM

This study demonstrated that the bacteria could adsorb Fe3+ and reduce Fe3+ to Fe2+. Iron had significant bacteriostatic effects, which were directly proportional to the iron concentration and under the influence of pH and chelator. It presumed that the inhibition of Fe3+ acts through the formation of hydroxyl free radicals.

Rhizobacteria were isolated from root and rhizospheric soil of rice collected from rice paddy fields in Nakhon Pathom and Sukhothai provinces. One hundred and sixteen isolates were screened for plant growth promoting properties. Nitrogen fixation property determined based on PCR amplification using primer Salkowski’s reagent and quantified by spectrophotometer at 530 nm. Siderophore production and phosphate solubilization were tested by plating technique in chrome azurol S and Pikovskaya’s medium. Eighty-one percent of isolated rhizobacteria revealed plant growth promoting properties.
