Adaptation of progenies/cultivars of arabica coffee (Coffea arabica L.) al. in mountainous edafoclimatic conditions. Repositório Alice
KROLING, C. A.; MATIELLO, J. B.; ALMEIDA, S. R. de; EUTRÓPIO, F. J.; CARVALHO, C. H. S. de.
Brazil is known for production and worldwide export of coffees. Study of adaptation of new progenies/cultivars of Arabica coffee (C. arabica L.) with resistance to rust in mountainous edaphoclimatic conditions is important for crop renewal and also for new plantations. This study was performed in the mountainous region of the Espírito Santo state, Brazil, with 30 progenies/cultivars of Arabica coffee planted at 2.5 x 0.7 m spacing with four replicates and seven plants/plot. The objective of the study was to evaluate the adaptation of rust-resistance coffee genotypes and compare them with the standard cultivars (Yellow and Red Catuaís), with regards to the characteristics of productivity, rust infection, productivity, sieve, aspect, plant vigor and yield...

Analysis of defects in coffee beans compared to biplots for simultaneous tables Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Brighenti,Carla Regina Guimarães; Cirillo,Marcelo Angelo.
ABSTRACT The demand for high quality coffee has become a consolidated criterion to achieve the best prices. Currently, cooperatives evaluate the coffee beans mainly through the particle size and the number of defects in the sample. This evaluation type generates counting data that originates contingency tables from different periods or groups involving the same variables in the row and column and there may be interest in knowing if two tables are related and how much are related. These are the so-called combined tables. Statistical analysis techniques normally employed do not include categorical data in the combined tables. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of different types of defects in samples of large flat coffee beans in two...

Seed size affects productive parameters in Sudan grass Ciência Rural
Bernardi,Alexandre; Ramos,Alexandre Rogério; Silva,Antonio Waldimir Leopoldino da.
ABSTRACT: The use of larger seeds may improve the initial development, plant stand, and mass productivity in forage crops. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of the size of seeds of Sudan grass (Sorghum sudanense L.), standardized on density, on parameters of physiological quality and crop productivity. Seeds were processed in a gravitational table in order to become uniform in terms of density and then submitted to sieves with apertures of 1.75 or 2.00 mm. Three different treatments (seeds without size classification, seeds with diameter between 1.75 mm and 1.99 mm, and seeds with diameter above 2.00 mm) were compared. This study consisted of a laboratory stage for the analysis of physiological variables of seed, and a stage in field plots...
