Do enzyme inhibitors dicyandiamide and NBPT influence the microbial immobilization of phosphorus in Humic Cambisol? 91
Dall’Orsoletta,Daniel J.; Gatiboni,Luciano C.; Schmitt,Djalma E.; Arruda,Bruna; Heidemann,Joice C..
ABSTRACT The application of nitrogen fertilizers, both organic and mineral, can cause nitrate losses by leaching. To minimize this effect, enzyme inhibitors are used. However, the effects on microbial biomass, which is the most sensitive and dynamic compartment of nutrients in the soil, as well as its effect on nutrients such as phosphorus (P) are unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the enzyme inhibitor (EI) on soil microbial phosphorus (Pm) when mineral fertilizer (NPK) or liquid swine manure (LSM) was applied in corn cultivation. The experiment was installed in a Humic Cambisol in Lages – SC, Brazil (27° 47’ 08” S; 50° 18’ 09” W) in the 2012/2013 season. The treatments consisted of: i) NPK; ii) NPK + EI; iii) LSM; iv) LSM + EI, applied...

Soil fungal and bacterial biomass determined by epifluorescence microscopy and mycorrhizal spore density in different sugarcane managements 65
Aleixo,Adriana Pereira; Kaschuk,Glaciela; Alberton,Odair.
Crop productivity and sustainability have often been related to soil organic matter and soil microbial biomass, especially because of their role in soil nutrient cycling. This study aimed at measuring fungal and bacterial biomass by epifluorescence microscopy and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) spore density in sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) fields under different managements. We collected soil samples of sugarcane fields managed with or without burning, with or without mechanized harvest, with or without application of vinasse and from nearby riparian native forest. The soil samples were collected at 10cm depth and storage at 4°C until analysis. Fungal biomass varied from 25 to 37µg C g-1 dry soil and bacterial from 178 to 263µg C g-1 dry soil....

Soil microbial and chemical properties influenced by continuous cropping of banana 63
Sun,Jianbo; Zou,Liangping; Li,Wenbin; Wang,Yuguang; Xia,Qiyu; Peng,Ming.
ABSTRACT: The impacts of continuous cropping of banana on soil microbiological and biochemical properties are little understood. In this study, we evaluated the variations in soil bacterial community abundance and diversity, microbial biomass carbon (MBC) and nitrogen (MBN) as well as soil enzyme activities involved in C, N and P cycles as affected by continuous cropping of banana. An initial increase in bacterial 16S rRNA copy and soil microbial biomass was observed in the second cropping and then decreased until the fourth cropping. The diversity of bacterial community showed a continuous decrease throughout the experiment. In addition, continuous cropping of banana caused shifts in bacterial community composition and structures. Soil urease and...

Soil Organic Matter Quality Indicators in a Cultivated Andisol 113
Zagal,Erick; Córdova,Carolin.
Agricultural practices influence the dynamics of soil organic matter (MOS) and its fractions. In this study, the following labile fractions of soil organic matter were determined: free light fraction (FLL), intra-aggregate light fraction (FLI), microbial biomass and mineralized C-CO2, on volcanic soil with different rotations, and later their use was evaluated as biological indicators of the impact of agricultural practices on the soil. The study was carried out in an eight year field experiment, with different productive systems (rotations) in a randomized complete block design. The free light fraction (FLL) was determined by density fractionation with NaI (1.8 g cm-3), and the intra-aggregate light fraction (FLI) was obtained by sonication (1,500 J s-1)....

Bonetti,João de Andrade; Paulino,Helder Barbosa; Souza,Edicarlos Damacena de; Carneiro,Marco Aurélio Carbone; Caetano,Jeander Oliveira.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the soil physical and biological properties in an integrated crop-livestock system (ICLS), with or without cattle grazing, in different seasons. The experiment was carried out in the Cerrado biome, in Brazil, in a Rhodic Eutrudox. The treatments consisted of grazing areas (Urochloa ruziziensis) at 0.25, 0.35, and 0.45 m heights (with soybean cultivation after grazing) and of nongrazed areas. The ICLS had no negative effects on soil bulk density, total porosity, macroporosity, and microporosity. After ICLS implementation, the values of soil bulk density decreased, and those of soil macroporosity increased, in the grazed and nongrazed areas. However, after three years, bulk density and macroporosity were...
