Água-régia como extrator alternativo para o diagnóstico ambiental de áreas impactadas por resíduos industriais: estudo de caso Centres (Queimados, RJ). Repositório Alice
SOARES, R.; SANTOS, M. C. B.; MADDOCK, J. E. L.; BERTOLINO, L. C.; SANTELLI, R. E.; CAMPOS, D. V. B. de.

ABSTRACT Soil contamination by heavy metals threatens ecosystems and human health. Environmental monitoring bodies need reference values for these contaminants to assess the impacts of anthropogenic activities on soil contamination. Quality reference values (QRVs) reflect the natural concentrations of heavy metals in soils without anthropic interference and must be regionally established. The aim of this study was to determine the natural concentrations and quality reference values for the metals Ag, Ba, Cd, Co, Cu, Cr, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sb and Zn in soils of Paraíba state, Brazil. Soil samples were collected from 94 locations across the state in areas of native vegetation or with minimal anthropic interference. The quality reference values (QRVs) were (mg...

Distribution of cadmium in a cultivated soil in Britanny, France Scientia Agricola
Hadlich,Gisele Mara; Ucha,José Martin.
Cadmium (Cd) can be potentially toxic to the environment, and its bioavailability is related to the chemical forms it occurs in the soils. The distribution of Cd into the solid phase and its availability was investigated in a cultivated soil in Britanny, France. Cd sequential extraction was performed using a modified Tessier's sequential extraction protocol. Total content of Cd (n = 22 samples) ranged from 0.13 to 0.37 mg kg¹. Long term history of organic and mineral fertilizers application increased Cd concentration in the surface horizon. The fate of Cd was correlated with soil available P2O5 concentration and pH. The regression analysis (linear and non-linear) and Principal Component Analysis revealed the synergistic effect of P2O5 in the retention of...

Effect of nickel in the degradation of oil in soils contaminated with petroleum and nickel. Repositório Alice
TAKETANI, N. F.; TAKETANI, R. G.; LEITE, S. G. F.; MELO, I. S. de; LIMA-RIZZO, A. C.; ANDREOTE, F. D.; CUNHA, C. D. da.
Abstract: The pollution originated from the petrochemical industry is currently one of the main environmental concerns. Most of this is due to the high volume of toxic hydrocarbons that are produced and transported around the globe. However, this industry is also associated with toxic metals that are minor components of petroleum and used during refining processes. Here we have evaluated the impact of nickel in the biodegradation of crude oil in natural soils. We have assessed bacterial community profiles in these samples using ion torrent 16S rRNA gene sequencing and Real-Time PCR quantification and shotgun metagenome sequencing. We have found that the contamination with oil and nickel reduced the bacterial abundance compared with only soil. There was...

Lead concentration and allocation in vegetable crops grown in a soil contaminated by battery residues Horticultura Brasileira
Lima,Francisco de S; Nascimento,Clístenes WA do; Silva,Fernando BV da; Carvalho,Vinícius GB de; Ribeiro Filho,Mateus R.
Lead (Pb) is a very stable metal in soil and is highly toxic to humans and animals. Exposure to Pb occurs via inhalation of particles from industry and soil, as well as household dust, water, and contaminated food. A greenhouse experiment was carried out to evaluate Pb contents and allocation in vegetable crops grown in a soil contaminated by battery recycling wastes. Eight plant species were studied: tomato, sweet pepper, beet, carrot, cabbage, green collards, eggplant, and okra. The experiment was set up in blocks at random with four replicates. The results showed that carrot, green collards, beet, and okra were the most Pb tolerant species, while the others were very Pb-sensitive, since they did not complete their cycle. The decreasing order for Pb...

Nickel adsorption and desorption in an acric oxisol as a function of pH, ionic strength and incubation time Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Mellis,Estêvão Vicari; Casagrande,José Carlos; Soares,Marcio Roberto.
ABSTRACT Although nickel (Ni) has both important potential benefits and toxic effects in the environment, its behavior in tropical soils has not been well studied. Nickel adsorption-desorption in topsoil and subsoil samples of an acric Oxisol was studied at three pH values (from 3.0 to 8.0). Adsorption-desorption isotherms were elaborated from experiments with increasing Ni concentration (5 to 100 mg L-1), during 0, 4, and 12 weeks, using CaCl2 0.01 and 0.1 M as electrolytic support in order to also verify the effect of Ni-soil time contact and of ionic strength on the reaction. Experimental results of Ni adsorption fitted Langmuir model, which indicated that maximum Ni adsorption (71,440 mg kg-1) occurred at subsoil, after 12 weeks. Nickel affinity (KL)...
