Agronomic characteristics of tomato plant cultivar Santa Cruz Kada grafted on species of the genus Solanum Horticultura Brasileira
Zeist,André R; Resende,Juliano TV; Silva,Israel FL; Oliveira,João RF; Faria,Cacilda MDR; Giacobbo,Clevison L.
ABSTRACT In this study were evaluated gas exchanges, fruit production and fruit quality of tomato Santa Cruz Kada grafted onto different species of the genus Solanum, using two grafting methods. For the grafted tomato cultivation, the authors used a randomized complete block design, in a 8x2 factorial scheme, evaluating eight rootstocks: accessions of mini tomatos (0224-5, RVTC 57, RVTC 20 and 6889-50); wild tomato species Solanum habrochaites var. hirsutum (PI-127826); Solanum pennellii (LA716); Solanum sessiliflorum (cubiu); and tomato cultivar Santa Cruz Kada (self-grafting, control), and two grafting methods {cleft grafting (FC) and approach grafting (EC)}. The authors verified a significant interaction between rootstock x grafting method. The S....

Inheritance of resistance to Phytophthora infestans (Peronosporales, Pythiaceae) in a new source of resistance in tomato (Solanum sp. (formerly Lycopersicon sp.), Solanales, Solanaceae) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Abreu,Flávia Barbosa; Silva,Derly José Henriques da; Cruz,Cosme Damião; Mizubuti,Eduardo Seiti Gomide.
In Brazil, no commercial tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L. formerly Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) varieties are available which are resistant to the late blight, one of the most important tomato diseases, produced by the phytopathogenic oomycete Phytophthora infestans. The wild tomato (Solanum habrochaites Knapp & Spooner, formerly Lycopersicon hirsutum Dunal) shows resistance to P. infestans, because of which we investigated an interspecific cross between S. lycopersicum cv. Santa Clara and S. habrochaites accession BGH 6902 maintained at the Horticultural Germplasm Bank at the Federal University of Viçosa (Banco de Germoplasma de Horticultura (BGH), Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV), Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil) The genitors, F1, F2, BC1 and...

Selection of tomato genotypes for processing with high zingiberene content, resistant to pests Horticultura Brasileira
Lima,Isabela P; Resende,Juliano TV; Oliveira,João RF; Faria,Marcos V; Dias,Diego M; Resende,Nathalia CV.
ABSTRACT Tomato cultivars resistant to arthropod pests are an important tool to reduce the use of pesticides. Resistance sources can be found in wild Solanum species such as S. habrochaites, which shows high levels of zingiberene (ZGB). This study aimed to evaluate the resistance of a tomato F2 progeny to spider mite and whitefly by evaluating the ZGB content, in laboratory, in plants from the F2 population of the interspecific crossing Solanum lycopersicum cultivar Redenção x Solanum habrochaites var. hirsutum (PI-127826), F1 plants, susceptible plants (cultivar Redenção) and plants of the wild species (PI-127826). From the F2 population, six plants with high content and three with low content of ZGB were selected. For evaluating the impact of ZGB on the...

Selection of tomato lines and populations for fruit shape and resistance to tomato leafminer Horticultura Brasileira
Resende,Nathalia CV; Silva,Alex Antonio da; Maluf,Wilson Roberto; Resende,Juliano Tadeu V de; Zeist,Andre Ricardo; Gabriel,André.
ABSTRACT The market requirement regarding fruit type varies from region to region and it is necessary to produce cultivars with different patterns of fruit morphology. Therefore, the aim of this study was to select lines with resistance to tomato leafminer and different fruit shapes in order to meet the different market segments. Seventy-six lines and pre-selected populations were used for pest resistance together with four other susceptible controls (TOM-584, TOM-684, NC-123S, and Santa Clara) and two wild accessions (Solanum pennellii ‘LA 716’ and S. habrochaites var. glabratum ‘PI-127826’) considered resistant. The experiment consisted of tests of resistance to the tomato leafminer Tuta absoluta. The selection of lines was efficient, being obtained 33...
