A new coralline sponge, <i>Willardia caicosensis</i>, assigned to the family Timeidae, is described from the deep fore reef off the Turks & Caicos Islands, tropical western Atlantic Ocean, where it is common at depths ranging from 100 to 119 m. Individuals vary up to 15-20 cm in width. The relatively thin aragonitic skeleton is covered with delicate pillars up to + 1 mm. The living tissue is restricted to the spaces between pillars and a thin sheet lying above the calcareous skeleton. Exhalant canals converge upon regularly spaced central oscules on the sponge surface. Seven novel steroid glycosides, acanthifoliosides A-F (1-6) and the methyl ester of 6 (7), were isolated from the marine sponge Pandaros acanthifolium as minor components. Acanthifoliosides are characterized by a rare C-15 and C-16 oxidized D ring which was previously found in saponins produced by starfishes. Very uncommon is the presence of additional sugar residues at C-15 or C-16. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses, including two-dimensional NMR and HRESIMS data. Comparison of Sollasella digitata Lendenfeld, 1888, up until the present assigned to its own family Sollasellidae Lendenfeld, 1887 in the order Hadromerida, and Raspailopsis cervicornis Burton, 1959, assigned to Raspailiidae Nardo, 1833 in the order Poecilosclerida, leads to the conclusion that both should be considered congeneric and are best assigned to a single genus Sollasella. This is the second part of a revision and re-classification of the demosponge family Sollasellidae, and an example of a successful use of combined morphological and molecular data. Sollasella had been a poorly known, long forgotten taxon, placed incertae sedis in the order Hadromerida in the last major revision of the demosponges. Dibromohemibastadin-1 (DBHB) is an already known potent inhibitor of blue mussel phenoloxidase (which is a key enzyme involved in bioadhesion). Within this study, the potentiality of DBHB against microfouling has been investigated. The activity of DBHB was evaluated on key strains of bacteria and microalgae involved in marine biofilm formation and bioassays assessing impact on growth, adhesion and biofilm formation were used. The chemical composition of the Caribbean sponge Pandaros acanthifolium was reinvestigated and led to the isolation of 12 new steroidal glycosides, namely, pandarosides E-J (1-6) and their methyl esters (7-12). Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses, including two-dimensional NMR and HRESIMS data. La investigación se realizó en los meses de octubre de 2011 y marzo de 2012. A partir del análisis de imágenes satelitales se seleccionaron 41 sitios en el sector central del golfo de Ana María, región surcentral de Cuba. En dichos sitios se llevó a cabo el inventario de corales, gorgonias y esponjas. Para los corales, se analizó, además, el estado de salud. El inventario se realizó en los ecosistemas de manglar, pastizales y arrecifes de coral (biotopos de cabezos y fondos areno-rocosos). Bioguided fractionation of Agelas cerebrum crude extract resulted in isolation of four bromopyrrole and four bromopyrrole aminoimidazole alkaloids, identified as 5-bromopyrrole-2-carboxylic acid (1), 4-bromopyrrole-2-carboxylic acid (2), 3,4-bromopyrrole-2-carboxylic acid (3), 4,5-bromopyrrole-2-carboxylic acid (4), oroidin (5), bromoageliferin (6), dibromoageliferin (7) and dibromosceptrin (8) on the basis of spectroscopic data analyses (UV, IR, HRMS, 1D and 2D NMR) and comparison with literature data. Cold-water coral reefs and adjacent sponge grounds are distributed widely in the deep ocean, where only a small fraction of the surface productivity reaches the seafloor as detritus. It remains elusive how these hotspots of biodiversity can thrive in such a food-limited environment, as data on energy flow and organic carbon utilization are critically lacking. Le peuplement de démosponges des îles Kerkennah a été étudié notamment du point de vue de sa répartition systématique et comparé à d’autres peuplements de démosponges de l’étage infralittoral méditerranéen. La récolte a intéressé 111 individus à partir de 11 stations différentes situées sur les hauts fonds des îles Kerkennah à des profondeurs variants entre 0,5 et 12 m, principalement des stations d’herbiers à posidonies. Nous avons pu identifier 50 espèces différentes, parmi lesquelles 19 étaient signalées pour la première fois en Tunisie, et 2 étaient nouvelles pour la Méditerranée. Se establecieron 12 estaciones de muestreo en perfiles batimétricos (5, 10 y 15 m) de cinco sitios ubicados en los Bajos de Sancho Pardo, Archipiélago de Los Colorados, región noroccidental de Cuba. Se empleó el marco cuadrado de 1 m de lado como unidad de muestreo, el cual se colocó aleatoriamente en 30 posiciones por estación. Fueron identificadas 50 especies de esponjas de la clase Demospongiae, distribuidas en 33 géneros, 10 órdenes y 22 familias.
