Alternative invitro propagation: use of sugarcane bagasse as a low cost support material during rooting stage of strawberry cv. Dover BABT

The purpose of this work was to reduce the cost and improve the quality of the plant material during the micropropagation process in tissue culture. Partially improvement in the rooting process, coupled with cost reduction was obtained during the invitro rooting by the use of a natural support based on sugarcane bagasse as a substitute for the traditionally used agar gelled medium. The tests were conducted with micro-cuttings of strawberry cv. Dover using a medium composed of half strength MS medium (1962), 3% sucrose and 0.05 BAP mg.l-1. O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a eficiência do gás ozônio produzido por um reator, a fim de que os pequenos produtores de morangos possam usá-lo, contribuindo, assim, para as economias regionais. BACKGROUND: Cadmium (Cd) is well known as one of the most toxic metals affecting the environment and can severely restrict plant growth and development. In this study, Cd toxicities were studied in strawberry cv. Camarosa using pot experiment. Chlorophyll and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activities and mineral nutrient concentrations were investigated in both roots and leaves of strawberry plant after exposure Cd. Mixed flavor beverages represent a trend that is gaining the allegiance of potential fruit juice consumers. The present study proposed to prepare mixed flavor beverages and verify their consumer acceptance. Cajá beverage (sample A) was used as the standard. The other beverages were prepared by mixing the cajá-flavored product with other flavors: strawberry (B), pineapple (C), jabuticaba (D), mango (E) and cashew (F). The consumer profiles in the two regions studied were similar. Overall beverages B, A and F were the most accepted, with scores of 7.7, 6.4 and 6.2, respectively. Se estudiaron parámetros fisiológicos y de rendimiento de cuatro distintas variedades de fresa (Fragaria x anannassa Duch.), dos variedades mexicanas CP Zamorana (CP 02-01) y CP Jacona (CP 02-04) y dos variedades comerciales extranjeras (Festival y Giant). La evaluación se llevó a cabo en el periodo de otoño 2009. We hypothesize that such an approach may not be appropriate under some circumstances, such as when only long-term relationships hold among price series or when homogeneous but relatively perishable products are considered. We tested the functional response of the phytoseiid predator Phytoseiulus macropilis (Banks, 1904) to different population densities of Tetranychus urticae Koch, 1836 (the two-spotted spider mite - TSSM) in the laboratory. We evaluated the curve that best fits the data obtained, based on the reduced X². The predators were obtained from leaves of Oso Grande strawberries at the municipality of Bom Princípio, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Genetic diversity and population structure analysis of strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) using SSR markers Electron. J. Biotechnol.

In total, 18 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were used to analyze the genetic diversity and population structure of 59 accessions of cultivated strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) from Korea, Germany, United States, United Kingdom, and Japan. In total, 101 alleles were detected with an average of 5.6 per locus and 21 specific alleles were identified. Notably, one genotype (Blonoli from Germany) possessed a maximum of 10 different unique alleles specific to each genotype. Strawberry is one of the most popular fruits because of its shape, color and taste, and the presence of antioxidant compounds. Because severe abiotic stresses result in detrimental consequences to plant growth, the effect of cultivating under mild stress conditions has rarely been investigated. Therefore, we evaluated the effect of mild salt stress on yield and quality of strawberry fruit. Mild salt stress did not affect yield. The lower level of mild salt stress evaluated showed increased vegetative growth (24%), higher photosynthetic effectiveness, and increased activity of phenoloxidase (22%) and polyphenoloxidase (33%), as well as the accumulation of sucrose (5%) and anthocyanins (60%) in the fruit, compared to non-stressed plants. Drosophila suzukii is an insect pest with high capacity to cause damage to soft-skinned fruit whose behavior on host crops in Brazil is still unknown. This study aims to determine the population fluctuation of D.suzukii on different berry crops from 2014 to 2017 and infestation. In each orchard, two traps containing attractant (biological yeast + sugar + water) were installed each week; and sorting was done in laboratory after two days hold-up period. At the same time, fruits were harvested to assess the presence of D. suzukii. The emergence of D. suzukii was observed in December (late spring), population increased from January to March (summer) and terminated in June (late fall).
