Urea pastillation is a technology that allows the composite mixture with other elements like sulfur and zinc. This study aimed to provide recommendations of N rates, and to assess the agronomic performance of N fertilizers, including pastille urea and its composition associated with S and Zn, top-dressed on maize. Two experiments were set up in the harvests of 2014 and 2015 in an Acrisol and a Lixisol. The experimental design was the randomized blocks with three replicates in a split-plot arrangement and an additional treatment (no N). In the plot, three N applications rates were tested (75, 150 and 300 kg ha-1); while in the subplots, seven fertilizers were tested, including conventional and pastilled ones. The greater was the N rate applied, the higher... |

The objectives of this work were to evaluate the management of N and S (as ammonium sulphate) fertilization under no-tillage system on the components of maize productivity and on N and S accumulation in the crop, as well as to evaluate the minimum value of the Nitrogen Sufficiency Index (NSI 0.95) as an indicator for side dressing requirements. The experiment had a completely randomized block design with six treatments and four replications carried out in Red Latosol dystrophic soil (Hapludox), in Campo Mourão, Paraná State, where the following treatments in summer growth maize were applied: T1- 120 kg ha-1 N in seeding; T2- 120 kg ha-1 N in side dressing; T3- 40 kg ha-1 N in seeding and 80 kg ha-1 N in side dressing; T4- 30 kg ha-1 N in seeding and 90 kg... |

A sensitive, precise and rapid analytical method was elaborated to measure simultaneously 5 volatile reduced sulfur compounds (VRSC) ; hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbonyl sulfide (OCS), methane thiol (MeSH), dimethyl sulfide (DMS), dimethyl disulfide (DMDS). The study of VRSC in the Bay of Quiberon highlights seasonal and interannual variations of concentrations in epibenthic zone. H2S analyzed near the sediment water interface (anoxic microzones), is more elevated in summer. The OCS distribution is consistent with a predominant photodegradation in winter and a sedimentary source in summer. The variations of MeSH, DMS and DMDS are correlated with the Dinophyceae abundance. In the Seine estuary, the absence of volatile H2S in the up estuary is explained by the... |

Two wheat fertilization experiments were conducted during the 2005-2006 and 2007-2008 seasons using a medial, mesic, seric, Typic Placandept soil to determine the effect of sulfur on the yield, percentage of protein, gluten content, and sedimentation volume of the grain and the nutrient availability in the soil. During the 2005-06 season, the fertilization treatments consisted of a base fertilization plus various sulfur treatments: 0 kg S ha-1 (T1); 27 kg S ha-1 (T2); 54 kg S ha-1 (T3) or 108 kg S ha-1 (T4). During the 2007-08 season, the fertilization treatments were 0 kg S ha-1 (T1), 9 kg S ha-1 (T2), 18 kg S ha-1 and 36 kg S ha-1 (T4). The results showed no differences (P<0.05) in the grain yield for any of the treatments evaluated. Furthermore, no... |

The application of gypsum to the soil provides a favorable environment for the development of the root system, supplying the subsurface layers with elements such as calcium and sulfur and reduce the toxic aluminum activity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of gypsum doses application on the maize (Zea mays L.) yield and the nutrients levels in the leaves. The study was conducted in the municipality of Terra Roxa - PR in an Oxisol using experimental design of randomized blocks with four replications. The treatment were composed of different doses of gypsum (0, 3.0, 6.0 and 9.0 t ha-1) applied after sowing corn. When the plants were in the R1 stage leaves were collected and analyzed the levels of N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S. After... |

A geochemical modeling of gold deposition was performed using the EQ3/EQ6 software package using conditions inferred from geological, petrographic, geochemical and fluid inclusion data from the Bloco do Butiá gold mine, Lavras do Sul, RS. Gold in the mine occurs only in the pyrite structure (invisible gold). The pyrite occurs associated with white mica (phengite) in the zone of phyllic alteration. The process of gold deposition showed to be related to temperature and pH decrease. The pH decrease was fundamental to gold deposition by destabilization of sulfur species [Au(HS)2- , HAu(HS)2(0) and Au(HS)0] dissolved in the aqueous solution, being Au(HS)0 the main gold transporting complex. The addition of KCl is hard to accept as cause of gold precipitation... |

Hygroscopic fertilizers tend to absorb moisture from the air and may have undesirable characteristics such as moistness, clumping and lower fluidity, hampering the application. The increasing use of urea is due to its numerous advantages, although this nitrogen (N) source is highly susceptible to volatilization losses, particularly when applied to the soil surface of management systems with conservation of crop residues. The volatilization losses can be minimized by slow or controlled-release fertilizers, with controlled water solubility of the urea-coating materials; and by stabilized fertilizers, which prolong the period during which N remains in the amide or ammonia forms by urease inhibitors. This study evaluated the hygroscopicity of and ammonia... |

A field experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of fertilization level on the phenolic composition of tronchuda cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var. costata DC) external and internal leaves. Eight different plots were constituted: a control without fertilization, one with organic matter, and six experiments with conventional fertilizers (nitrogen, boron, and sulfur, two levels each). The phenolic compounds were analyzed by reversed-phase HPLC-DAD. External and internal leaves revealed distinct qualitative composition. In the internal leaves were found 15 phenolics (5 kaempferol and 10 cinnamic acid derivatives), whereas the external leaves presented 3-p-coumaroylquinic acid and 13 kaempferol derivatives. Principal component analysis (PCA) was... |

The Rimicaris exoculata dominates the megafauna of some of the Mid Atlantic ridge hydrothermal vent sites. This species harbors a rich community of bacterial epibionts inside its gill chamber. Literature data indicate that a single 16S rRNA phylotype dominates this epibiotic community, and is assumed to be a sulfide-oxidizing bacteria. However attempts Of Cultivation were not successful and did not allow to confirm it. The aim of our study was to test the hypothesis of sulfide oxidation in the gill chamber, by a multidisciplinary approach, using in vivo experiments at in situ pressure in the presence of sulfide, microscopic observations and a molecular survey. Morphology of microorganisms, before and after treatment, was analyzed to test the effect of... |
