Does supplemental LH changes rate and time to ovulation and embryo yield in Santa Ines ewes treated for superovulation with FSH plus eCG? Ciência Rural
Oliveira,Maria Emilia Franco; Cordeiro,Mabel Freitas; Ferreira,Roberta Machado; Souza,Samuel Figueirêdo; Pieroni,Juliana Souza Pinto; Rodrigues,Luiz Fernando de Souza; Fonseca,Jeferson Ferreira da; Vicente,Wilter Ricardo Russiano.
The objective was to evaluate if supplemental LH given at the end of FSH treatment would synchronize the time of ovulation and increase the ovulation rate and embryo yield in Santa Ines ewes. Twenty superovulatory (SOV) programs were accomplished in cross-over design (60d interval). On D0, a CIDR device was inserted, and the device was replaced with a new one 7 days later, when 37.5µg of d-cloprostenol was administered. On D12, we started the SOV treatment, administering 256mg of pFSH 8 times, 12h apart. On D14, the CIDR was removed, and 200IU of eCG and 37.5µg of d-cloprostenol were administered. On D15, the ewes were allocated into one of two groups, a Control group (n=10) that received no supplemental LH and a LH group (n=10) treated with 7.5mg of LH...

Effect of the dry matter intake level on the sanguine profile of glucose, insulin, urea, estrogen and progesterone and concentration of IGF-I in the follicular liquid of crossbred heifers BABT
Rigolon,Luiz Paulo; Prado,Ivanor Nunes do; Cavalieri,Fábio Luiz Bim; Nascimento,Willian Gonçalves do; Copovila,Luiz Carlos; Ramos,Fabíola dos Santos; Moreira,Fernanda Barros.
The aim of this work was to study effect of the dry matter intake level on the concentrations of glucose, insulin, urea, estrogen and progesterone in the blood and the level of IGF-I in the follicular liquid of heifers. Twenty seven crossbred heifers were used, in three treatments: 1.2, 1.6 and 2.6% of the live weight of dry matter intake (DMI) daily. The sanguine concentrations of glucose and estrogen were higher in the animals with 1.6% of DMI and the insulin levels were higher in the animals with 2.6% of DMI. There was an increase in the sanguine levels of urea with the increase of the DMI. There was no effect of the DMI on the progesterone levels in the sanguine plasma collected from the jugular. The progesterone levels in caudal vena were higher in...

Effects of environmental factors on multiple ovulation of zebu donors Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Peixoto,M.G.C.D.; Bergmann,J.A.G.; Fonseca,C.G.; Penna,V.M.; Pereira,C.S..
Data on 1,294 superovulations of Brahman, Gyr, Guzerat and Nellore females were used to evaluate the effects of: breed; herd; year of birth; inbreeding coefficient and age at superovulation of the donor; month, season and year of superovulation; hormone source and dose; and the number of previous treatments on the superovulation results. Four data sets were considered to study the influence of donors’ elimination effect after each consecutive superovulation. Each one contained only records of the first, or of the two firsts, or three firsts or all superovulations. The average number of palpated corpora lutea per superovulation varied from 8.6 to 12.6. The total number of recovered structures and viable embryos ranged from 4.1 to 7.3 and from 7.3 to 13.8,...

Embryo development and follicular status of Toggenburg does fed urea diet R. Bras. Zootec.
Amorim,Lincoln da Silva; Torres,Ciro Alexandre Alves; Siqueira,Luiz Gustavo Bruno; Fonseca,Jeferson Ferreira da; Guimarães,José Domingos; Carvalho,Giovanni Ribeiro de; Alves,Nadja Gomes; Oliveira,Margarida Maria Nascimento Figueiredo de.
The effects of feeding urea on embryo production, quality and developmental stages and follicular status at the beginning of a superovulatory treatment of Toggenburg does fed urea diet were investigated in this study. Eighteen females were randomly allocated to receive diets with: no urea (control, n=8), and 2.4% urea dietary dry matter (n=10) UDM. The embryo recovery was performed at day 7 or 8 of estrus cycle by transcervical technique and classified according to quality and developmental stage. The follicular status was determined by transrectal ultrasonography at the first day of FSH injection. The number and quality of embryos were not affected by dietary urea concentration. Embryos from does treated with 2.4% UDM were recovered at advanced stage....

Endocrine profiles and ovulation rate of cows superovulated with FSH following passive immunization against steroid free-bovine follicular fluid Braz. J. Vet. Res. Anim. Sci.
ALVAREZ,Rafael Herrera; CARVALHO,João Batista Pereira de; ROSA E SILVA,Alzira; PERONE,Cibele Nunes; RIBELA,Maria Tereza Carvalho Pinto; OLIVEIRA FILHO,Enoch Borges de.
Ten multiparous non-lactating cows were randomly assigned to one of two groups. On days 8 to 12 after estrus, the first group was given 100 ml antiserum against steroid-free bovine follicular fluid (anti-bFF), which was produced in ovariectomized sheep. The second group (control) was given 100 ml nonimmune ovariectomized sheep serum. Six hours after injection, both groups were superovulated with FSH (18 NIH-FSH-S1 units) and LH (0.29 NIH-LH-S1 units) in a 4-day decreasing regime. On the morning of the third day a luteolytic dose of prostaglandin F2alpha analogue (cloprostenol) was given. Artificial inseminations (AI) were done 48 and 60 h later. Embryos were collected 7 days after AI by a nonsurgical method. Blood samples were taken throughout the...

Exposure of C57BL/6J Male Mice to an Electric Field Improves Copulation Rates with Superovulated Females OAK

It is well-known that there are considerable strain differences in the relative copulation rates between male and superovulated female mice. In particular, the C57BL/6J strain of mice has a lower rate of successful copulation. We examined the effect of exposure to an electric field on sexual behavior in C57BL/6J male mice. When C57BL/6J males were exposed to a 50 Hz, 45 kV/m electric field for 30 min per day for 11 days and placed in a cage with a superovulated female of the same strain, the successful copulation rates of males was significantly improved compared with unexposed males (P<0.05). These results suggest that the exposure of C57BL/6J male mice to an electric field improves their sub-fertility activity in mating with superovulated females.
