A new leafminer on grapevine and Rhoicissus (Vitaceae) in South Africa within an expanded generic concept of Holocacista (Insecta, Lepidoptera, Heliozelidae) Naturalis
Nieukerken, E.J. van; Geertsema, H..
A grapevine leafminer found recently in table grape orchards and vineyards in the Paarl region (Western Cape, South Africa) is described as Holocacista capensis sp. n. It has also been found on native Rhoicissus digitata and bred on that species in the laboratory. It is closely related to Holocacista salutans (Meyrick, 1921), comb. n. (from Antispila), described from Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, but widespread in southern Africa and a native leafminer of various Vitaceae: Rhoicissus tomentosa, R. digitata, R. tridentata and Cissus cornifolia. Holocacista capensis has been found on Vitis vinifera both in Gauteng and Western Cape, the earliest record being from 1950 in Pretoria. The initial host shift from native Vitaceae to Vitis must have occurred much...

Agronomic performance of seedless table grape genotypes under tropical semiarid conditions. Repositório Alice
LEAO, P. C. de S.; NASCIMENTO, J. H. B.; MOARES, D. S. de; SOUZA, E. R. de.
The São Francisco Valley is the main producing region of table grape in Brazil. The objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic performance and physicochemical characteristics of 14 seedless table grape genotypes to select those with potential to be used in commercial crops in the São Francisco Valley, Brazil, or as parents in breeding programs. The experiment was carried out over five crop seasons (2014 to 2018), in Petrolina, PE, Brazil. The treatments consisted of 14 seedless table grape genotypes. The results showed significant effects for all variables evaluated. The highest estimated yield per production cycle were found for ?Marroo Seedless? (26.5 t·ha-1), ?BRS Linda? (26.4 t·ha-1), ?CNPUV 23? (24.9 t·ha-1), ?A1105? (24.3 t·ha-1),and ?A...

Efecto del agua aplicada en las relaciones hídricas y productividad de la vid 'Crimson Seedless'. Repositório Alice
FERREYRA, R.; SELLES, G.; SILVA, H.; AHUMADA, R.; MUÑOZ, I.; MUÑOZ, V..
Sesenta...

Effects of different sulfur dioxide pads on botrytis mold in ?Italia? table grapes under cold storage. Repositório Alice
AHMED, S.; ROBERTO, S. R.; DOMINGUES, A. R.; SHAHAB, M.; CHAVES JUNIOR, O. J.; SUMIDA, C. H.; SOUZA, R. T. de.
?Italia? grape is one of the most important table grape cultivars grown worldwide. Gray mold, caused by Botrytis cinerea Pers. Fr., is one of the most important causes of postharvest decay of table grapes, and the control of this disease is very difficult because postharvest treatments with synthetic fungicides are not allowed in many countries. The objective of this study was to compare different types of pads releasing different doses of SO2 during cold storage to control gray mold in ?Italia? table grapes grown under subtropical conditions. Grape bunches were harvested from a commercial field trained on an overhead trellis located at Cambira, state of Parana (PR), South Brazil. The grapes were packed into carton boxes (capacity, 4.5 kg) and subjected to...

Genome selection in fruit breeding: application to table grapes. Repositório Alice
VIANA, A. P.; RESENDE, M. D. V. de; RIAZ, S.; WALKER, M. A..
Genomic selection (GS) has recently been proposed as a new selection strategy which represents an innovative paradigm in crop improvement, now widely adopted in animal breeding. Genomic selection relies on phenotyping and high-density genotyping of a sufficiently large and representative sample of the target breeding population, so that the majority of loci that regulate a quantitative trait are in linkage disequilibrium with one or more molecular markers and can thus be captured by selection. In this study we address genomic selection in a practical fruit breeding context applying it to a breeding population of table grape obtained from a cross between the hybrid genotype D8909-15 (Vitis rupestris × Vitis arizonica/girdiana), which is resistant to dagger...

Postharvest techniques to prevent the incidence of botrytis mold of ?BRS Vitoria? seedless grape under cold storage. Repositório Alice
DOMINGUES, A. R.; ROBERTO, S. R.; AHMED, S.; SHAHAB, M.; CHAVES JUNIOR, O. J.; SUMIDA, C. H.; SOUZA, R. T. de.
"BRS Vitoria" (Vitis spp.) is a novel hybrid seedless table grape recommended for cultivation in tropical and subtropical areas, especially for overseas export. The main postharvest disease of this cultivar is botrytis or gray mold (Botrytis cinerea), which occurs even under low temperatures in cold chambers. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) release pads have been used to control this disease under cold storage, but some grape cultivars are sensitive to certain levels of this compound. The objective of this work was to evaluate different types of SO2 generator pads in order to prevent the incidence of gray mold of ?BRS Vitoria? seedless grape, as well to avoid other grape injuries during cold storage. Grape bunches were harvested when fully ripened (16◦Brix)...

Relative humidity during cold storage on Postharvest quality of 'Niagara Rosada' table grapes Ciência Rural
Pinto,Josuel Alfredo Vilela; Schorr,Márcio Renan Weber; Thewes,Fabio Rodrigo; Ceconi,Deiverson Luiz; Both,Vanderlei; Brackmann,Auri; Fronza,Diniz.
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different levels of relative humidity (RH) on the maintenance of Postharvest quality of 'Niagara Rosada' table grapes after cold storage at 0.5°C for 21 days. A completely randomized design was used, with five replicates of 18 clusters per treatment. The selected levels of relative humidity were 85, 90, 95 and 100%, obtained by means of electronic humidity controllers. The fruits were evaluated in relation to rot incidence, berry cracking, browning rate, respiratory rate, titratable acidity, soluble solids, resistance to abscission, berry drop and weight loss. The evaluations were assessed at 20 days of storage and after two and four days of shelf-life (20°C; 85% RH). The results showed that as higher as relative...

The ideal table grapes for the Spanish market Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Piva,Cesar Rosso; Garcia,José Luis Lopez; Morgan,Wyn.
This paper seeks to explore a survey of consumers in Spain. The survey explores the attributes of quality that consumers are seeking and promotion of grapes via "quality" marks, which are indicators of possible ways to increase demand. The reason consumers are switching to other foods, such as dairy based snacks, is that grapes are not easy to eat, can be unreliable in terms of their quality attributes, and their price more variable. Consumers are also generally unaware of the marks quality currently used.
