Recently, were described some morphological characteristics of 18 species of terrestrial hemipteran grouped in the Alydidae, Coreidae, Corimelaenidae, Lygaeidae, Rhopalidae, Scutelleridae, Tingidae and Reduviidae family that presented found variation in coloration of testicular peritoneal sheath (Reddish, Orange, Yellowish or Transparent). Thus, this study aims to analyzed the coloration of the peritoneal sheath in 44 species of triatomines grouped in nine different genera, with the aim of analyze whether the insects of the Triatominae subfamily also show variations in coloration. By means of analysis of the sheath was possible to observe that members of this subfamily have no interspecific differences, because all species have a transparent sheath. Thus,... |

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of pST injections on metabolism, testicular size, and sperm characteristics in young boars. Sixty 22-day old piglets were divided into two groups: pST (n=30) and Control (n=30). The pST group was submitted to pST injections (90µg/kg body weight) every three days up to 330 days of age. Blood collections were performed weekly. Testicular weight was measures at 22, 82, 142, 202 and 365 days of age. Libido and fresh semen characteristics were evaluated between 150 and 210 days of age. Semen characteristics were also evaluated during a 72h storage period (15ºC). Testosterone, albumin, and phosphorus blood concentrations were higher in the pST group (P<0.05). The pST group had a higher IGF-I... |

The objective of this work was identify the presence of interstitial cells of Cajal, muscle cells, nerves and androgen receptor positive cells in adult human testicle, using immunohistochemical detection for c-kit/CD-117, actin smooth muscle specific (ASMS), neurofilament (N) and androgen receptor (AR), respectively. The samples were obtained from patients (n= 10) with diagnosis of prostate cáncer, with surgery of orchiectomy. Subsequently were processed by histology and for immunohistochemistry using specific antibodies. It showed the presence of cells c-kit/CD-117, with diverse degrees of positivity, distributed mainly in the interstitial peritubular área of the human testicle. The peritubular myoides cells were positive to the presence of the actin... |

Two groups were formed in order to evaluate the effect of an obesogenic diet on body and liver weight, body fat accumulation and the histometric characteristics of liver and testicles of New Zealand rabbits during the peripuberal period. One group received a standard farm diet and the other received a standard farm diet with canola oil added. During the study, weight of both groups was recorded. At the end of the study, the rabbits were euthanized and liver, testicles, and visceral, scapular and scrotal fat were weighed. Tissue samples were obtained from liver and testicles to carry out histometric analysis. Body weight, body mass index, liver and visceral fat weight were significantly different (P<0.01) in the obesogenic diet when compared to the... |

ABSTRACT Studies on reproduction in sea turtles are important due to its life cycle, migratory patterns, high juvenile mortality and environmental impacts. This study aimed to analyse histomorphometrically gonads of C. mydas from the coastline of the Espírito Santo State, Brazil. Ovaries and testicles were collected between 2014 and 2015 from stranded animals. The material was fixed in formalin 10%, assessed macroscopically and processed for histomorphometrical evaluation. Gonads from 34 individuals were evaluated, twenty-four females and ten males. Macroscopic sexual identification presented 100% accuracy confirmed by histology. Sexual dimorphism was observed in one individual, which was considered as adult (CCL=1.023 m). Microscopy of female gonads... |

The present research aimed to describe possible histopathological alterations in the reproductive system (testicles and epididymis) of male dogs experimentally infected with Toxoplasma gondii. Canines (n=10) serologically negative for T. gondii were selected and distributed into three experimental groups: GI, 3 inoculated with 2.0 x 10(5)P strain oocysts; GII, 3 infected with 1.0 x 10(6)RH strain tachyzoites; and GIII, 4 control dogs. Antibody research (IFAT) against T. gondii was realized. Toxoplasma gondii infection was confirmed by seroconversion of the 6 males infected with tachyzoites and oocysts from postinoculation day (PID) 7 and 14, respectively. At PID 70, all dogs were submitted to orchiectomy and testicle and epididymis samples were collected... |

P. expansa e P. unifilis. |

Most of the neotropical bats reproduce in a seasonal fashion. The purpose of this study was to assess changes in testicular tissue by morphometry, in Tadarida brasiliensis bat, in a south urban zone of Mexico City during summer, autumn, and winter. Three sample collections (February, June, and September) from T. brasiliensis were carried out (n=6). Testicle fragments were obtained for histological studies. Diameter of the seminiferous tubules and interstitial space were measured, cellular populations were identified and counted. June samples showed smaller diameter of seminiferous tubules and larger interstitial space between tubules; also there were less number of germinal epithelium cells and spermatids were absent. Tissues from September and February... |

Ofloxacin presents an ample spectrum of antimicrobial action, including combating Mycobacterium leprae, and is currently employed as a substitute when the use of rifampicin is impossible. The objective of this work was to study alterations in testicular cell nuclei of suckling rats, whose dams were submitted to oral application of ofloxacin, and respective control groups. The method utilized was morphometry by the karyometric technique. The main structures observed in histological preparations of the testicles were interstitial cells, spermatogonias, and sustentacular cells. 10 Wistar rats were utilized, four treated and five controls, in the period of the first 25 days of life, whose dams received ofloxacin 12 mg/ Kg of body weight / day orally, before... |

Sequelae due to testicular biopsy such as hemorrhage, adhesion and fibrosis may be limiting factors to the use of this surgical procedure. Fibrin glue (FG) derived from snake venom was used to minimize these sequelae, as well as to evaluate its healing property in tunica vaginalis and scrotal skin of rams. Applicability of fibrin glue derived from snake venom was tested in different tissues of other animals such as in sciatic nerve and colon of rats and skin of rabbits. In the present study, 30 healthy adult rams were used. They were divided into 3 groups of 10 animals each as follows: G1: fibrin glue group (application of fibrin glue on puncture sites and skin incisions after bilateral testicular biopsy with a Tru-Cut needle); G2: swab/nylon group... |
