Clinical and pathological aspects of gossypiboma in a dog: case report 45
Oliveira,R.; Matsui,A.; Ribeiro,J.O.; Simionato,G.; Simamura,A.C.; Canola,J.; Camplesi,A.; Vasconcelos,R.O.; Moraes,P. C..
ABSTRACT A female dog was treated at the Veterinary Hospital Governador Laudo Natel for symptomscaused by an intra-abdominal gossypiboma (gossypium: cotton; boma: place of hiding). Showing high morbidity and mortality, the gossypiboma is a granulomatous reaction that is formed in response to exposure to a textile matrix. The objective of this report is to describe the clinical and pathological findings of an intra-abdominal gossypiboma in a female dog. This patient arrived at urgent care showing increased abdominal volume, pain, and cachexia. Ultrasonography showed a regular contour formation that could not be completely delimited. The patient underwent exploratory laparotomy and died in the postoperative period. The gossypiboma had a smooth, firm, and...

Impacts of Multi-Fiber Arrangement Removal on Global Textile and Cotton Trade 31
Xia, Doris Yan.
Textiles and apparel trade has been governed by the Multi-Fiber Arrangement (MFA) for three decades. Trade restrictions have generated substantial welfare losses and price wedges in exporting and importing countries through trade distortions. Beginning in 1995, textiles and apparel trade underwent fundamental changes. MFA quota will be removed by Jan 2005 according to World Trade Organization's Agreement on Textiles and Clothing (ATC). This study established an equilibrium displacement model to investigate the impact on textile and cotton sectors of different countries and country-groups of removing the MFA quota. The model specifies the basic linkages of textile and cotton markets in the United States, China and three other country-groups. With...

Wollastonite to hinder growth of Aspergillus niger fungus on cotton textile 42
TAGHIYARI,HAMID R.; MAJIDINAJAFABADI,REZA; VAHIDZADEH,REZA.
Abstract Effects of Aspergillus niger was investigated on the strength of cotton textile specimens impregnated with nano-wollastonite, and then compared with normal specimens. Cotton strips were cut and prepared in warp and wept directions according to the standard specifications ASTM D-5035. Results showed that incubation of A. niger on specimens for three months resulted in a significant decrease in tensile stress as well as weight mass change in both directions. Impregnating specimens with NW ameliorated the negative effects of fungal attack on tensile stress to a considerable extent. Moreover, weight change was significantly decreased. It is concluded that NW positively protect cotton textile against A. nigra; the ultimate NW-content should be studied...
