Growth and yield of rice cultivars sowed on different dates under tropical conditions 118
Garcés-Varon,Gabriel; Restrepo-Díaz,Hermann.
Rice plants are susceptible to low light or high temperature conditions during the reproductive and maturity stages. Two rice cultivars, Fedearroz 50 ('F50') and Fedearroz 733 ('F733'), were planted on three planting dates, January 1st (PD1), February 15th (PD2) and April 1st (PD3), to expose them to different climatic conditions during the different stages of rice development. The experiment was a factorial arrangement. Of the various weather parameters, solar radiation fluctuated the most among the three different planting dates, with PD1 having the highest number of days with values ≥ 450 cal·cm-2·d-1. The yield components were influenced by the planting time. PD3 showed the lowest number of tillers per unit of area and the highest percentage...

Spatial variability of some biometricattributes of sugarcane plants (variety IACSP93-3046) and its relation to physical and chemical soil attributes 53
Grego,Célia Regina; Vieira,Sidney Rosa; Xavier,Mauro Alexandre.
Tests to evaluate competition between plants, in general do not consider the soil spatial variability, nevertheless, the uniformity rarely is present and can not be assumed without verification. The aim of this work was to apply geostatistics to verify the spatial variability of the soil in an experimental field near Ribeirão Preto, SP, with sugarcane variety IACSP93-3046. Ninety seven geo-referenced samples, placed at distances of 10 m, were collected for soil chemical analysis, soil resistance to penetration and biometric evaluation of the sugar cane plant included number of tillers, stalk diameter, stalk height, estimated productivity (TSSe) and root density. Geostatistics has been applied by means of semivariogram, data interpolation via kriging and...

Structural characteristics and forage mass of Tifton 85 pastures managed under three post-grazing residual leaf areas 96
Silva,Wilton Ladeira da; Galzerano,Leandro; Reis,Ricardo Andrade; Ruggieri,Ana Cláudia.
The experiment was carried out on Cynodon spp cv. Tifton 85 pastures grazed by sheep under rotational stocking, with the objective of evaluating the structural characteristics as well as the forage mass of the pastures subjected to three grazing intensities in successive cycles. Treatments were composed of three residual leaf area indices (rLAI; 2.4; 1.6 and 0.8), allocated in completely randomized blocks with seven replications, totaling 21 experimental units. Tiller population density, pasture height, leaf area index, forage morphological composition and pasture forage mass were evaluated. The rLAI modified the tiller population density, which increased linearly with decrease in the rLAI of the pastures. Dry masses of leaf blade, stem and dead material...

Sugarcane tolerance to ratoon eradication with glyphosate determined by physiological responses 87
Silva,M.A.; Arantes,M.T.; Oliver,R.; Brunelli,M.C..
This study aimed to evaluate the tolerance of sugarcane cultivars to ratoon eradication under different glyphosate rates by means of physiological responses. Therefore, a trial was carried out in randomized complete blocks with 4 x 4 factorial design (cultivars x rates) totaling 16 treatments with four replicates. The cultivars IAC91-5155, IACSP93-3046, and IAC86-2480 and IAC87-3396 and the glyphosate rates 0 g ha-1; 1,920 g ha-1; 2,400 g ha-1; 2,880 g ha-1 were tested. The variables analyzed were percentage of tiller mortality, quantum efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm) and SPAD index. The results showed that there are differences among sugarcane cultivars for tiller eradication and for physiological responses with glyphosate different rates. The rate of 2,880 g...

Tiller density and tillering on Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu pastures inoculated with Azospirillum brasilense 45
Pedreira,B.C.; Barbosa,P.L.; Pereira,L.E.T.; Mombach,M.A.; Domiciano,L.F.; Pereira,D.H.; Ferreira,A..
ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to verify the population density and the dynamics of tillering in the Marandu palisade grass sward subjected to nitrogen (N) fertilization strategies, characterized by the N supply via urea or bacterial inoculant (Azospirillum brasilense). The treatments comprised of four nitrogen fertilization strategies: (A) Without fertilization, (B) 80 kg N/ha, (C) inoculant (A. brasilense), and (D) 80 kg N/ha + inoculant, distributed in a randomized complete block design, with three replications. The nitrogen supply strategies were evaluated during six periods: October, November, and December (2012) as well as January, March, and April (2013). The nitrogen dose or inoculant had no effect on the tiller appearance rate (TAR),...

Tiller population density and productivity in tall fescue and prairie grass swards 118
Scheneiter,Jorge; Assuero,Silvia.
This study examined the relationship between herbage mass and tiller population density in terms of size/density compensation theory, in tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) and prairie grass (Bromus catharticus Vhal) swards. Tall fescue herbage mass and tiller density information was collected from an experiment where two nitrogen levels, two seeding arrangements and two grazing frequencies were evaluated. In prairie grass, the same information was obtained from swards managed with two levels of defoliation frequency and intensity. In tall fescue size density compensation mechanisms were observed when nitrogen nutrition limitation was overecome. Prairie grass showed less phenotypic plasticity than tall fescue and density/compensation mechanisms were...
