Systematic notes on Asian birds. 24. On the priority of the name Hypsipetes Vigors, 1831, and the division of the broad genus of that name Naturalis
Dickinson, E.C.; Gregory, S.M.S..
We conclude that the reasons hitherto given for non-recognition of the generic name Ixos in the family Pycnonotidae were erroneous. The broad genus employed by the proponents of that view is now considered too broad, and we concur with Sibley & Monroe (1990) that several generic names must be used, including Ixos. No genus can be constructed except around the name of its type species, and no other species within such a genus may be the type species of a generic name that is older. The arrangement offered by Sibley & Monroe (1990) was flawed because this rule was not observed. We therefore offer a complete revision. We believe it to be desirable to recognise several more genera than those recognised by Sibley & Monroe (1990), at least until we...

Systematic notes on Asian birds. 26. Types of the Pycnonotidae Naturalis
Dickinson, E.C.; Dekker, R.W.R.J.; Eck, S.; Somadikarta, S.; Loskot, V.; Morioka, V.; Violani, C.; Voisin, C..
A list of about 370 names applied to Asian forms of species of bulbul (family Pycnonotidae) is presented. This list provides information on the whereabouts of a type; where our information does not include reliable data we provide notes to explain the deficit and to stimulate others to offer additional data or sources of information. A lectotypes is designated for P[ycnonotus]. Yourdini [sic] “(Homb. & Jacq.)” G.R. Gray, 1847. Comments are also made on previous lectotype designations for Hypsipetes rufigularis Sharpe, 1877, and Criniger simplex Wallace, 1862, and on the need to designate one for Pycnonotus rufocaudatus Eyton, 1845.

Systematic notes on Asian birds. 45. Types of the Corvidae Naturalis
Dickinson, E.C.; Dekker, R.W.R.J.; Eck, S.; Somadikarta, S.; Kalyakin, M.; Loskot, V.; Morioka, H.; Violani, C.; Voisin, C..
A list of about 280 names applied to Asian forms of species of crows (family Corvidae) is presented. This list provides information on the whereabouts of type specimens. Where our information does not include reliable data we provide notes to explain the deficit and to stimulate others to offer additional data or sources of information. For technical reasons we herein re-restrict the type locality of both Dendrocitta himalayana Jerdon and Dendrocitta himalayensis Blyth.

Systematic notes on Asian birds. 58. The correct type species of Anthracoceros Reichenbach, 1849.G Naturalis
Gregory, S.M.S..
The history of the generic name Anthracoceros is reviewed. It is confirmed that the type species usually cited, Buceros malabaricus Gmelin, 1788, was not the first subsequently included nominal species. It is further shown that neither of the nominal species included in Anthracoceros by Bonaparte in 1854 can be considered as type candidates. This mistaken use of Anthracoceros aside, the type species of Anthracoceros is shown to be Buceros monoceros Shaw, 1811, by subsequent monotypy (Art. 69.3), and the correct citation given.

The correct name of the neotropical soybean bug (Hemiptera: Alydidae) Neotropical Entomology
Schaefer,Carl W..
A species of Neomegalotomus is an occasional pest of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] in the neotropics, including in Brazil. It was known as Neomegalotomus parvus (Westwood); but the discovery of the type specimen of a species described earlier requires that the name be changed to Neomegalotomus simplex (Westwood), which becomes the correct name for the soybean pest.

Towards a phylogenetic reappraisal of Parmulariaceae and Asterinaceae (Dothideomycetes) Naturalis
Guatimosim, E.; Firmino, A.L.; Bezerra, J.L.; Pereira, O.L.; Barreto, R.W.; Crous, P.W..
Members of the Asterinaceae and Parmulariaceae are obligate biotrophic fungi with a pantropical distribution that grow in direct association with living plant tissues and produce external ascomata and bitunicate asci. These fungi are poorly known, with limited information about their taxonomic position in the Dothideomycetes. Much of what is known is conjectural and based on observation of morphological characters. An assessment of the phylogenetic position of the Asterinaceae and Parmulariaceae is provided based on a phylogenetic analysis of the nrDNA operon (ITS) and the large subunit rDNA (LSU) sequence data obtained from fresh material of selected species collected in Brazil. Three key species were included and epitypified, namely Asterina melastomatis,...

Type specimens of Pectinidae (Bivalvia) described by Ignaz von Born Naturalis
Dijkstra, H.H..
Born described in two publications (1778, 1780) the molluscs in the collection of Empress Maria Theresa (1717-1780), now in the Natural History Museum at Vienna. In this paper the Pectinidae type material is described. Ten new species were introduced of which Argopecten nucleus (Born, 1778) and Minnivola pyxidata (Born, 1778) are valid taxa. The remaining eight names are junior or senior synonyms and there is also a nomen inquirendum.

Type specimens of Phasmida in the Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum, Leiden (Insecta: Phasmida) Naturalis
Bragg, P.E..
Type specimens of 75 taxa of Phasmida have been identified in the Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum, Leiden. The taxa are listed alphabetically by species, with the number of specimens, sex and locality data. The material includes species described by Bragg, Bragg & Chan, Gunther, de Haan, Kirby, Lichtenstein, Olivier, and Stoll. The type of pin used was found to be particularly useful as an aid to identification of older material. There are a number of omissions and discrepancies in the published data, these are clarified. Some background information on the original publications and the described material is included.
