Biodiversidad vegetal acuática de los humedales del río Chepu (Chiloé, Región de Los Lagos, Chile) OceanDocs

Se estudió la biodiversidad vegetal acuática y palustre de la Laguna Coluco que forma parte de los Humedales del río Chepu (Chiloé, Chile). La hoya hidrográfica del río Chepu comprende la laguna Coluco y los tributarios de la cuenca: ríos Huentru, Negro, Puntra, Grande, Coluco, abarcando aproximadamente 100 km^2. Los muestreos de terreno se realizaron con la metodología fitosociológica de la Escuela Zürich – Montpellier. Con los censos de vegetación levantados a lo largo del transecto, se confeccionó una tabla fitosociológica inicial con 120 censos y 88 especies vegetales. Esta tabla fue ordenada con los métodos tradicionales, lográndose determinar las 16 asociaciones siguientes: Myriophylletum aquaticum, Potametum pectinatii, Juncetum bulbosii, Potametum...

Durante la VIII Expedición Antártica Ecuatoriana se llevó a cabo un estudio de la cobertura vegetal en Punta Fort Willams, Isla Greenwich. Los objetivos planteados fueron: Conocer el estado actual de la vegetación, determinar la abundancia, dominación y frecuencia a través de la cobertura vegetal, así como la riqueza florística de las comunidades vegetales, para poder establecer si sufren impactos debido a las actividades antropogénicas. Se marcaron seis zonas de vegetación y se encontraron un total de 36 especies de líquenes distribuidos en 13 familias y cuatro especies de musgos pertenecientes a cuatro familias.

Effects of deforestation on headwater stream fish assemblages in the Upper Xingu River Basin, Southeastern Amazonia Neotropical Ichthyology

ABSTRACT The expansion of the Amazonian agricultural frontier represents the most extensive land cover change in the world, detrimentally affecting stream ecosystems which collectively harbor the greatest diversity of freshwater fish on the planet. Our goal was to test the hypotheses that deforestation affects the abundance, richness, and taxonomic structure of headwater stream fish assemblages in the Upper Xingu River Basin, in Southeastern Amazonia. Standardized sampling surveys in replicated first order streams demonstrated that deforestation strongly influences fish assemblage structure. Como parte del levantamiento ecológico de Punta Fort Williams, donde se encuentra ubicada la Estación Científica Pedro Vicente Maldonado, se ha iniciado un estudio de la cobertura vegetal de la región con miras a determinar su distribución cuali-cuantitativa. En el presente trabajo se describen cinco especies de musgos reunidas en cuatro familias, y diez y nueve especies de líquenes agrupadas en once familias. Estas especies parecen ser las más comunes y representativas de la región estudiada.

In conservation agriculture, mainly under direct seeding, maintaining the vegetation ground cover is essential, since this serves as a reservoir of nutrients which are slowly released to plants by microorganisms. Some authors have sought to study increases in the amount of straw in the soil, in addition to slowing down the process of decomposition, with hormesis being one of the techniques used. Inventario de la flora y vegetación en cayos de la región central del golfo de Ana María, Cuba OceanDocs

Con el objetivo de inventariar la flora y vegetación presente en la región central del golfo de Ana María, Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, se realizaron colectas de campo, revisiones bibliográficas y la consulta de materiales de herbarios. Se listaron un total de 47 plantas vasculares, agrupadas en 43 géneros y 25 familias. Cayo Algodón Grande constituyó la localidad de mayor diversidad, la cual estuvo en correspondencia con la extensión superficial del territorio. En el área de estudio se registraron tres formaciones vegetales, siendo el bosque de mangle la de mayor representatividad.

Les îlots forestiers au sud du Togo : Dynamique et relations avec les végétations périphériques OceanDocs

Cette étude traite des relations floristiques et dynamiques entre îlots forestiers et végétations périphérique dans la plaine côtière du sud du Togo. Les îlots forestiers sont essentiellement des fôrets sacrées et des forêts "pare-feu" à proximité des villages. Des relations évidentes ont été établies entre les îlots forestiers et les végétations périphériques : 1) phytogéographique, 51,8 % des espéces des îlots et 32,4 % des espèces des végétations périphérique sont d'origine forestière; 2) floristique, 870 espèces ont été recensées dont 649 dans les îlots et 610 dans leurs environs. 373 espèces leur sont communes....

Modern palynological investigations (pollen and non-pollen palynomorphs) have been carried out for the first time in the entire Bay of Brest (BB; NW France), a semi-enclosed oceanic basin flooded during the Holocene that today is exposed to both marine (North Atlantic surface waters) and fluvial (Aulne and Elorn rivers) influences. Urban heat islands are characterized by high land surface temperature, low humidity, and poor vegetation, and considered to favor the transmission of the mosquito-borne dengue fever that is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. We analyzed the recorded dengue incidence in Sao Paulo city, Brazil, in 2010-2011, in terms of multiple environmental and socioeconomic variables. Lors de cette période, une série d'actions a été menée, visant à la lutte contre les végétations flottantes en lagune Ebrié. Les résultats obtenus sont importants, bien que l'on puisse reprocher à ces actions un certain manque de coordination. Le bilan peut être fait ainsi: le suivi des différentes phases d'envahissement indique bien que la cible principale est désormais la jacinthe d'eau (Eichhornia crassipes). L'espèce Pistia stratiotes, endémique, ne constitue pas une véritable menace. Using Short-Term Monitoring Data to Achieve Goals in a Large-Scale Restoration Ecology and Society

To evaluate the outcome of restoration projects, an overall goal, reformulated to specific subgoals or targets, must be explicit and translated into scientifically measurable ecological attributes. Monitoring ecological attributes is necessary to assess restoration progress. Data from long-term monitoring are rarely available when restoration interventions are planned and implemented. In this study, we show how short-term monitoring data are incorporated into the planning of the large-scale restoration of a former military training area: the largest restoration project approved in Norway, covering more than 165 km² and intended to enhance nature conservation.
