Árvore decídua na estação seca, medindo 7-15m de altura. Caule, geralmente, não perfilhado, com 30cm de diâmetro ou superior e casca castanho-avermelhada; ramos lenticelados, pubescentes a glabrescente. Folhas com 15-20cm de comprimento, alternas, bipinadas, 14-30 pares de pinas, raque pubescente, pinas com 35-50 (ou mais) pares de foliólulos, lineares, 3-7x1mm, ambas superfícies glabras, ápice agudo a obtuso, base assimétrica. Inflorescências dispostas em panículas globosas axilares ou terminais, flores com 3mm de comprimento, com brácteas foliáceas bipinadas, de cor branca a amarelada e de aroma suave. Contributions of the complexity paradigm to the understanding of Cerrado's organization and dynamics. Repositório Alice

Abstract: The Brazilian Cerrado is a vegetation mosaic composed of different physiognomies. Discussions remain open regarding the factors and processes responsible for the dynamic and spatial organization of the Cerrado - in its different physiognomies. The contributions of the complexity paradigm in this context are still less exploited, despite its great potential for explanations and predictions presented in previous diverse dynamic systems of complex behavior researches, a category in which the Cerrado can be included. This article has the intention of contributing to the construction of this new perspective, discussing - from theoretical concepts - the paradigm of complexity for the understanding of the organization and the dynamics of the Cerrado.

Floristic and phytosociology in a physiognomic gradient of riverine forest in Cerrado, Campinas, SP Biota Neotropica

Knowledge on floristic composition and vegetation structure is essential to preserve plant biodiversity and environmental conditions. A floristic and structural survey of woody vegetation was carried out in a physiognomic gradient of riparian forest of Cerrado vegetation, Campinas - SP. We sampled 25 plots, distributed along five transects, located perpendicularly to a stream. We found 971 individuals (65 standing dead trees) distributed among 35 families and 80 species. Soil islands on rocky surfaces often harbor aggregated vegetation that consists of insular plant communities. These islands are typical of the rocky outcrops and in various parts of Brazil form the so-called "campos rupestres" vegetation. Four of such sites have been selected in the state of Bahia, Northeast Brazil, for this comparative study on floristics and vegetation structure: three areas situated inside the "Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina" (Guiné, Fumaça and "Gerais da Fumaça") and one is at the border of the Environmental Protection Area of "Marimbus-Iraquara" ("Mãe Inácia"). ABSTRACT Restinga occurs as a narrow band of coastal habitats throughout the Atlantic Forest, although it presents considerable variation in vegetation structure, which likely contributes to heterogeneity in species inhabiting this endangered ecosystem. The goal of this study is to examine how variation in vegetation and abiotic conditions in the restinga ecosystem may contribute to heterogeneity of bird communities in Restinga de Jurubatiba, Brazil. Árvore de porte médio a alto, com altura entre 5-20m. Caule com até 1m de diâmetro, casca espessa e acinzentada, copa com ramos terminais suberosos. Folhas compostas, digitadas, opostas cruzadas, de 5-7 folíolos oblongos, elípticos ou obovados, cartáceos de coloração verde claro. Inflorescência terminal, com internós alongados, eixo lepidoto, portando muitas flores. Flores tubulares de cor amarelo-ouro, com até 8cm de comprimento, cálice campanulado, bilabiado, lepidoto; corola amarela, com ou sem guias de néctar amarelo-escuro, 5-9cm de comprimento, infundibuliforme, glabro externamente e internamente. Fruto tipo síliqua, deiscentes, cilíndricos, de parede delgada, medindo 14-18,5cm de comprimento, contendo cerca de 80 sementes, rosadas, achatadas e aladas.

The role of temporal scale in linear edge effects on a submontane Atlantic forest arboreal community Acta Botanica

This study aims to detect the composition, abundance patterns, and successional stage distributions exhibited by arboreal species inside and at the linear edge of a submontane seasonal forest in the Chapada Diamantina (12°28'31'S, 41°23'14'W), Bahia, Brazil. The individual plants with breast height diameters ≥5 cm were sampled in 30 quadrats (10 m × 10 m), 15 in the forest edge and 15 inside the forest. Species were classified according to successional category. Phytosociological and diversity indices were calculated. Shannon indices were compared using Hutcheson's t-test, and the remaining parameters were analyzed by ANOVA.
