Identifying drought events in sugarcane using drought indices derived from Modis sensor PAB
Picoli,Michelle Cristina Araujo; Duft,Daniel Garbellini; Machado,Pedro Gerber.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the potential of several spectral indices, used on moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (Modis) images, in identifying drought events in sugarcane. Images of Terra and Aqua satellites were used to calculate the spectral indices, using visible (red), near infrared, and shortwave infrared bands, and eight indices were selected: NDVI, EVI2, GVMI, NDI6, NDI7, NDWI, SRWI, and MSI. The indices were calculated using images between October and April of the crop years 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10, and 2013/14. These indices were then correlated with the standardized precipitation-evapotranspiration index (SPEI), calculated for 1, 3, and 6 months. Four of them had significant correlations with SPEI: GVMI,...

InsectCV: a system for insect detection in the lab from trap images. Repositório Alice
CESARO JÚNIOR, T. de; RIEDER, R.; DI DOMÊNICO, J. R.; LAU, D..
Advances in artificial intelligence, computer vision, and high-performance computing have enabled the creation of efficient solutions to monitor pests and identify plant diseases. In this context, we present InsectCV, a system for automatic insect detection in the lab from scanned trap images. This study considered the use of Moericke-type traps to capture insects in outdoor environments. Each sample can contain hundreds of insects of interest, such as aphids, parasitoids, thrips, and flies. The presence of debris, superimposed objects, and insects in varied poses is also common. To develop this solution, we used a set of 209 grayscale images containing 17,908 labeled insects. We applied the Mask R-CNN method to generate the model and created three web...

Spatial variability of leaf wetness duration in cotton, coffee and banana crop canopies Scientia Agricola
Santos,Eduardo Alvarez; Sentelhas,Paulo Cesar; Pezzopane,José Eduardo Macedo; Angelocci,Luiz Roberto; Monteiro,José Eduardo Boffino Almeida.
Despite the importance of leaf wetness duration for plant disease epidemiology, there has been little attention paid to research on how its variability relates to different cropping situations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the spatial variability of leaf wetness duration (LWD) in three crops, comparing these measurements with turfgrass LWD, obtained in a standard weather station. LWD was measured by electronic sensors in three crops with different canopy structures and leaf area: cotton, coffee and banana. For the cotton crop, cylindrical sensors were deployed at the lower third and on the top of the canopy, facing southwest. For the coffee crop, flat plate sensors were installed in the lower third of the canopy facing northeast and...

Yield and quality of grapes cultivated under plastic coverings with different downy mildew control strategies. Repositório Alice
HOLCMAN, E.; SENTELHAS, P. C.; SPÓSITO, M. B.; CONCEIÇÃO, M. A. F.; COUTO, H. T. Z..
Viticulture has been expanding in tropical regions. However, the climate in these areas is generally favourable to the incidence of plant diseases, especially downy mildew. Plastic covers and warning systems have shown very positive results in disease control, but they are tools that have never been used simultaneously in a tropical area. The Vitis vinifera cv. BRS Morena table grape was evaluated as regards yield and quality under different downy mildew control strategies as carried out on vineyards trained on an overhead trellis system, covered by a black shading screen (BSS) or a braided polypropylene film (BPF), over a 3?year period. Different grapevine downy mildew management approaches defined the treatments: Co) Control (no spraying); Ca)...
