Comparing Price and Non-price Approaches to Urban Water Conservation AgEcon

Urban water conservation is typically achieved through prescriptive regulations, including the rationing of water for particular uses and requirements for the installation of particular technologies. A significant shift has occurred in pollution control regulations toward market-based policies in recent decades. We offer an analysis of the relative merits of market-based and prescriptive approaches to water conservation, where prices have rarely been used to allocate scarce supplies. The analysis emphasizes the emerging theoretical and empirical evidence that using prices to manage water demand is more cost-effective than implementing non-price conservation programs, similar to results for pollution control in earlier decades. Cost Analysis and Water Conservation Potential of Irrigation Technologies in the Texas Panhandle Water Planning Area AgEcon

Six irrigation systems are analyzed considering cost and potential water savings. The investment cost of furrow and drip is $115,800 and $260,120, respectively. The cost of quarter mile pivot ranges from $59,000 to $64,000. Per ac-in variable pumping cost ranges $9.96 to $14.86 assuming natural gas price $7.00 per MCF.

The Water Conservation Project for The Queen was prepared from The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives that reassigned to the H.M. Queen Sirikit . Occesion visited the Royal Project and visiting people in Mae Hong Son Province during 3-9 march 2006. Her intention was to give proplance who living on a high area to awareness the importance of tree, water, soil and survive with a reasonable and sustainable forests. In 2012 Mae Hong Son Rice Research Center has followed the strategy to promote learning and professional development based on sufficiency economy.
